Why credit? Team capitulate, woah woah woah woah. Team play well, woah woah woah woah. Its noise, nothing more. May as well pipe it through the pa system.

Nothing to do with club or team, it isn't support. It's all about them acting out in the way they think football supporters do so that folk mention them. Social media driven football support. Utterly pathetic.
This with bloody great knobs on. Earlier this year I went to see Werder Bremen v Eintracht Frankfurt. The home support were making a good din, albeit a din orchestrated by several blokes with loudspeakers down at the front. Frankfurt took the lead after 45 seconds. The “good din” carried on unabated, completely at odds with what had just happened down on the pitch.

We’ve all been to enough matches to know what a home crowd should sound like after going behind within a minute. Lots of Anglo-Saxon invective coupled with a wry chuckle here and there. The continued orchestrated warblings of those not watching what’s actually happening is right out. Sure, it was a spectacle of sorts but it was still just… wrong.

It's noise. It's completely irrelevant to the game.

... seems we're just into very different things when it comes to football experiences.
Still don't see how singing for the team in good and bad times is anything other than supportive.

Southampton are spectacularly shit - can’t help but feel Ralph Hassenhuttel would’ve got something out of tonight’s game. Feel sorry for Jones but he appears to be completely out of his depth.

Zero shots on target and completely outplayed by Forest - at home - it’s really not looking good

Oh, I’m not saying it isn’t supportive. I totally get that it’s probably better for the team than a bunch of verbals.

It’s just part of our cultural norms. The stuff we’ve grown to expect from decades of watching our clubs in different corners of the globe. This is just the English way. It probably does feel odd to a lot of the world but the alternative felt plain weird to me.

To sack your manager and get a new manager plummet is quite impressive in its own way.

Can I now officially want the lower league teams to defeat those above us ??? or do I keep looking over our shoulder ??
No need to look over your shoulder. You continue at this pace and you'll end up on around 60pts. Good enough for 7th in an average season.

Arteta morning about Newcastle time wasting 🙈
In his defence, we were time wasting a lot. But, yeah, he's got some cheek.

Singing for the team or singing for themselves, look at me in my uniform, listen to me with my drum.

An atmosphere, genuine support, is when there's a connection. Quiet periods are part of that, it ebs and flows with the game. When the teams under pressure the support reacts, provides the support. With every attack it changes, a roar builds as the encouragement and excitement builds.

How is monotonous woah woah woah thud thud thud supportive? It's like covid football with artificial sound. I appreciate that is what many mainland Europe clubs do but I think it is pretty poor. Noise for noise sake, their interpretation.of UK supporters in the 80's,. Pathetic stuff

As someone said... cultural stuff. Just take the Everton game... they were in desperate need for some energy from their surroundings and I barely know if the sound is on or not until they concede and start moaning about their team. For the majority of the game a couple of hundred (or how many you were) Brighton fans make more noise than 30k+ home supporters. Not my cup of tea and struggle to see in what sense the Everton fans were trying to support their struggling team, but we all have different preferences.

You're absolutely correct, of course...

...but so is this.

The Palace "support" which is being discussed here feels more like a staged routine - it doesn't seem to ebb and flow with the game in any way - it's just there as a backing track of sorts. I have absolutely no idea if it helps Palace perform better on the pitch or not.

For me the HF are a reskinned England Band. It's an orchestrated dirge that was briefly in vogue and entertaining but very soon the vast majority of fans found dull if not nauseating.
Unfortunately in both cases some broadcasting execs decided on our behalf that this was "atmosphere" and now we must continue to suffer - probably until the heat death of the universe.
