Can’t tackle a Man Citeh player like that and not get a red?

Yellow (if we’re lucky) if that tackle had been made on a Brighton player.

Nice start for the scum town club. Got stuffed, a red and a couple of crowd incidents.

Nothing changes.

Said exactly the same before it started. City v bottom half of the table teams so often so dull for the neutral - god only knows why tv keep picking them
I suspect with this game there is the idea of Vincent Kompany returning, and the potential of 'former player coming back to cost his old team' happening as it often does in football. There was also an opening day match for a newly promoted Burnley v (I think defending champs) Man Utd that everyone knew Utd would win, that was actually won by Burnley. Brentford got the upset v Arsenal after promotion. I think there was the hope of, or the awareness of a possible, upset.

Vincent Kompany on the booing:

Statement from Burnley while the game was still being played:

I agree from an entertainment perspective but it would be very strange for the Champions’ opening game of the season not to be live on TV. They’ve reflected its lack of potential by sticking it in the Friday slot rather than a more prestigious Sunday kickoff. Plus they get one of their showings of Burnley out of the way nice and early with a good excuse.

Edit.. actually there’s no obligation to show all teams in the Fri/Mon package, so the last part doesn’t apply.

A very experimental line up from Arsenal. Can't watch but looks like they're playing Partey as an inverted FB, White playing CB/RCB. Think we are going to see a real evolution this year, partly inspired by RDZ and partly a football geek off between Pep and Arteta. Expecting starting positions and formations to feel more and more irrelevant.
