Predicting the Blues 2003/04 – Report of the Oldham Match

What a great start to the season, both for the Albion and Predicting the Blues!

A 3-1 victory at Oldham and a record number of entries for NSC’s prediction game.

162 players took part – and 100 correctly forecast the away win.

As for the 3-1 scoreline, that was what 19 players were expecting. Congratulations to all 19, who share top place in the league table – with five points.

There were several ways to score two points –

A correct forecast of an away win, combined with a prediction that the Albion would score three goals, but a wrong prediction of Oldham’s tally (four players achieved that – all with a 0-3 forecast)

A correct forecast of an away win, combined with a prediction that Oldham would score once, but a wrong prediction of the Albion’s score (the 30 players who forecast a 1-2 result)

A correct forecast that Albion would win, combined with a forecast of a two goal margin, other than the 3-1 victory that actually happened (there were 21 players who reckoned it would be a 2-0 scoreline, and two who went for 4-2)

And then there are the players who scored one point:-

20 who predicted the Albion win, but got both teams’ scorelines wrong and got the winning margin wrong.

36 who correctly thought that Oldham would score once, either in a 1-1 draw or that they would win 1-0

And finally, the role of shame – the players with no points:-

25 of you, wrong in absolutely every way possible. Better luck at Bristol Rovers!

Remember – as the season progresses, rankings will be based on the average score you have achieved in the matches you have entered. If you’ve already got five points, this could easily drop down to 2.5 if you get the Bristol Rovers prediction hopelessly wrong. So don’t get complacent. And don’t despair if you have nothing to show after the first game.

What happens when you edit posts in the PtB threads is that I won't notice any editing if I've already "processed" the earlier prediction.

In this instance, I'll amend the working spreadsheet and your two points will appear in the next edition of the Table.

As a general rule, the only safe way to amend a prediction is to enter the revised prediction as if it was a new one. I will take the prediction posted closest to kick-off as the one that counts.
