Nope, I'm aiming it at some fans.

For crying out loud, it's a figure of speech. He's not actually going to go home. English isn't even his first language and he's got its subtleties and nuances better worked out than most of its native speakers, it would appear.
Thank god you posted this. I can't believe what I'm reading on here. Anyone who thinks he is being literal is a bit, well, thick. It's like saying "I would rather poke my eyes out with a rusty spear", or any other such phrase - it's just a saying.

Maybe people are taking his 'going home' statement a bit too literally. He has made it clear his ambition to be a top flight manager down the line, so would hardly think that by walking out on a club after throwing toys his out will do his reputation any good whatsoever.

best comment Gus made was about the tennis match, and how no 1 or 2 players are bigger than the club as a whole. He should take his own advice as no one person be it fan, steward, player, coach, MANAGER, or chairman are bigger than B&HA !!!

Time to man up and get on with it - and stop moaning about shit and threatening to leave. Very unprofessional.

On the flip side of that point, getting relegated with a side that is apparently not carrying out his instructions isn't going to do it any good either

I think that is exactly what they will have taken away.

I would imagine last season teams did the same thing, but you simply passed around them. Problem is that you are up against Championship defences now, and no disrespect, but you can't expect to simply pass around players with the same freedom you did in League One. You need far more pace and athleticism to get around bigger, stronger, quicker players. I mean we have Nosworthy and Kightly on loan, and we aren't even a big team. Nosworthy is superb at this level, and Kightly has the Championship assist record, even though he is a crock.

The only concern for Brighton IMO is that Poyet seems to be blaming everybody except himself. You can't just order a team to play like Barcelona, you have to take into account what you opposition is going to do and how you are going to counter it. Smacks slightly of arrogance to expect to just be able to pass around teams at this sort of level every week. You need graft, you need grit and you need to be able to adapt to your opposition, and I think he would do well to look at what he is doing as well as his players.

I feel I might be erring on the patronising, which is entirely unintended. Just giving my opinion is all, please don't take it the wrong way.

Fair, reasonable and intelligent observation. This is exactly why I think as and when we get Vicente, Buckley and Jara Reyes back we'll do a lot better. Other sides are going to think twice about pressing us deep if they've got Vicente or Buckley to man mark while Reyes looks like he does have the class to move it quickly on the floor from deep.

Argus:

Albion boss Gus Poyet has blasted his players for abandoning the passing game he has implemented. He branded last nights defeat as the worst performance for 18 months.

Selected quotes...

If we are going to play like we did in the last 20 minutes I'll go home. If the players are going to kick it, I'll go home. I don't care. So we will see if the players are brave enough to pass the ball on Sunday.

Me? I'm going to sit down on Sunday against Barnsley and watch my team pass the ball. If not I'll go home.
as i've said he's a South American , its what they do best...................... Teves

I know Gus has some money, but it would cost him an absolute fortune to buy out his contract, and he really wouldn't do so unless another club was doing it for him ( compensation ).

Add to that, that it would put a question mark over him being able to handle pressure, and it doesn't seem likely.

No doubt there will be a couple of players dropped for Sunday.

I heard it as he would go home after work and life would go on... not go back to bloody Uruguay!!! Hes angry and his putting a rocket up some asses... he had said many a time and is saying now nothing was expected but safety this season so what the hell is the problem. He has kept his promises... it is more a condemnation of us supporters who get all excited when we are performing miracles and then expect miracles every day of the week.

Sounds to me like he is worthy successor to Mullery... takes no excuses.

Isn't he just saying "Look, if I give specific instructions to the players before the match and they fail to carry them out, I might as well not be here"?

I just listened to that 6 minute after match interview. Sorry but I don't agree that's the words of a leader taking responsibility. I've managed businesses and if I went to my boss or shareholder and said "it's the fault of my team, you don't allow me to pay more for better people" I'd expect to be fired on the spot! What I think privately and what I say publicly are two different things!

That's sort of how i read it.

For me it was a little more "I might as well go home if the player's arent going to carry out my game plan" as in "There is no point me sitting here as i'm being ignored".

Obviously his english is excellent but I think this is just taking his words a little too literally.

for what it is worth, in my opinion we are where I thought we would be, albeit without winning loads at the start and not winning since. We are no better than a mid table Championship side, we are certainly not relegation fodder and we are certainly not top 6 material let alone top 2. We are a team in transition and development and Gus is building a squad capable of being a top 6 team, but that might not be for 2 years. we have players learing there trade at this higher level and that takes time. The difficulty for Gus and the players now (which I had not anticipated at the start of the season) is how to stop this losing mentality, how to re focus, how to start playing with confidence and no fear again. Confidence breeds goals which in turn breeds results. I still look at that table and we are only 4 pointsd from a 4th spot, agreed we are also 4 points from bottom 4, but the players should always look up that table and have the fight in them to get up there.

My final comment is the club, players and management need us, the fans more than ever now and need us backing them to the hilt on Sunday, they are fragile and booing or moaning is not what they need, they hear that and they stay in their shell, scared to try that defence splitting pass or that 20 yard drive, fear of getting more abuse. Big support is needed this Sunday and I for one will be doing my best to give encouragment. Together we can get out of this rut.

So come on then, one of you Mensa members do us village idiots the courtesy of explaining what Gus actually means when he says 'A casa' if the clowns can't pass it properly. To be fair, there aren't too many alternative interpretations, are there? You couldn't have complained if tabloids had run a 'Poyet in quit threat' story today. The quotes were there to back it up, and that wouldn't have been helpful (or hopefully true). And remember the players are reading this, they're not all Spanish scholars.

He was pissed off, and said some silly things, not just this, but about players' wages, their abilities, the budgets, about not caring what the chairman told him on the issue etc etc. I don't mind him being pissed off, or even saying silly things (though that will certainly land him trouble on occasions). It's just got to be better on Sunday.

Seem to recall there was some bullshit waffle when GP signed the five year contract about either side just walking away from the deal at any point if it wasn't working out, with nothing more than a manly handshake and a cheery wave. We shall see.
