We just need to win a scrappy game and then things will improve ... teams have worked out a way to stop us playing we now need to step up a bit more
Some numpties in the team last night put in place this mythical Plan B - hoofball
I wasn't there so don't know but who were these "numpties"? I'd be interested to know.
Also wouldn't it be better to have a chat with them rather than lambasting the entire team in the media?
observation number 1 : The players are not skilled enough to play tippy tappy in the Championship
observation number 2 : The players are not skilled enough to play hoofball in the Championship
.
Main culprits - Harper, Greer, Calderon.
observation number 1 : The players are not skilled enough to play tippy tappy in the Championship as the opposition can stifle out this game plan because Swansea got away with it last season.
observation number 2 : The players are not skilled enough to play hoofball in the Championship but could get away with it in League 1.
observation number 3 : Gus has another 12 games to turn things around , TB is not the type of guy to get f***ed about.
The only team who worked us out last year and punished us was Stoke city who as soon as we started passing it around at the back, jumped on us and and that was that. I seem to recall yeovill trying the same but didn't have the finishing to really push us.
This division we are playing against these pseudo premiership sides who have seen arsenal and the like knocking it about and have worked a way of trying to stifle it, like Blackpool for example.
I think that we haven't suddenly become shite, however I do think that when put under pressure we tend to have no one who will step up and take the game in midfield...birdcutt aside. Certainly our plan b of hoof ball is never going to work against teams like Watford who are far better at it ( and actually I thought their centre back had painter in his pocket all night)
Not being funny...but what does that leave? You sound like we're as good as down already.
Well, I expected the usual doom merchants on here today but I wasn't quite ready for some of these digs at Gus. Quite sickening really. Are some of you actually questioning his ability as a manager and coach? Really?
He is a clever manager ........
His quotes weren't really aimed at his players re: them implementing their own version of how to play, ahead of the managers version.
It was to us the fans to focus our minds that for now we will at times lose games no matter which version of football we play and his comments were to those that have advised a longer ball tac tic ahead of his unstinting belief for his passing game.
He is saying 'see we tried it last night and it failed and we lost, so now let me get on with it, thank you'
It was good PR.
I disagree. They ARE skilled enough. But when they lack confidence they don't do what they did last season. The one touch quick passes aren't there for fear of playing it astray. You saw how we played earlier in the season. It's not about us being found out in my opinion. It's about the players not putting into practice what they are capable of doing.
They need to play as if they believe in themselves a bit more and take more risks. So many at the moment are hiding. Playing the easy ball just for the sake of it. You watch, if we score first against Barnsley, we'll tear them apart..
Yeah, it worked a treat didn't it?
Agree his style of play does work, sadly opposition have worked out how to play against it. As I stated Palace defended higher and pressed the ball we run out of ideas, West Ham just put eleven bodies behind the ball and almost let us play across the back and midfield, great to watch us pass it about but West Ham pressed the ball when we finally looked like making a positive pass and stopped us from playing. His style of play does work - but only when executed properly, and, as he puts it, it is 'high risk'. Some numpties in the team last night put in place this mythical Plan B - hoofball - as called for by some on here, and it was of course f***ing shit. Did Gus tell them to do that? Evidently not, but they still did it. Those are the sorts of things (players doing as they are told) Gus has to sort out.
His' 'I'll go home' comment was a public admonishment of his players, NOT a threat or statement of intent. He has a fine mind for colourful language, and for so many people to take him at his literal word is a bit on the facepalm spectrum.
