No need to apologise for starting a thread on your own forum Bozza - you can do what you like!

I would regard the point when Potter's project is complete, as when we are competing in the Champions League. Perhaps not winning it, but competing.

That's another lovely thing about the Albion. Nice people, everywhere.

Pretty much this.
As a manager who understands how people tick, what makes a good working environment and who places value on mental health/psychology, I'd say he is looking for far more than just money, big buck transfer fees and a shot at trophies. He's a builder.
So one of his targets was getting us 'established as a Top 10 club'. That doesn't mean just doing it once.
I think a top 7 or 8 finish with European qualification as a minimum.
But if he's gone by the weekend, forget you read this :lolol:

I think you’re absolutely right.

I wouldn’t read too much in to giving Chelsea permission to talk to him, because we would tend as a club not to stand in anyone’s way.

But it would have to be an enormously attractive proposition for him to go, and NOT JUST ABOUT THE MONEY! The environment, the people he is working with and for would also be very important.

But never say never……..

I agree with an element of this.

GP has always been clear that there is more to life than football. That's why he is so level headed. Perhaps he's got to an age where he wants to do other things. Maybe that's winning the European Cup or Premier League, maybe it's just walking away.

In come Chelsea with mega bucks. GP thinks, well I can go there and be a success and get rich, or go there get sacked by a bunch of loons and still walk away with a pot of cash. Then I can either do something different with the familiy or join another club.

If he goes to Chelsea, then it will be a pragmatic decision. And Chelsea will not know how to nurture him or treat him.

I agree with all that, up to the last bit.

Not all insanely rich people are mad idiots. The new Chelsea owners have not yet shown that, at Chelsea, in England, they are hell bent on being dick heads. Maybe they want to try a new model that is driven by a different approach and a different sort of head coach?

Mind you, if they finish between 5th and 10th this season the manager may well get the push.

Time will tell.

If I was head hunted by a bigger company I would do my due diligence regarding the employment timeframe of previous employee's. Chelsea average 18 - 2 years before sacking their manager. Good luck Graham but you'll be out within 16 months as the one thing Potterball requires is time and you wont get that at Chelsea. Maybe Liverpool but not there. :wozza:

Strange attitude. So if a bigger company came and head hunted you and offered you four times your salary you wouldn't accept it ? And if you did accept it would your ex-collegues boo you ? If GP leaves I'll be gutted but I'd understand, especially as he has a young family to try and get the best for but I wouldn't wish any ill.

By most standards he will already be fairly well remunerated. And anybody who has read anything about him or heard interviews will know that money is not everything for him. And anybody who says “but money talks” are possibly just saying what they would do, not recognising that other people might think differently.

I know I'm grasping at straws, and there's a real likelihood that Potter (and his team) will be leaving us.

But here's the alternative 'wouldn't it be nice' scenario......

Potter: Tony, I've been approached by Chelsea. I have no intention of leaving.
TB: Thanks for letting us know Graham. I've got a special task I would like you to do for us today. Could I ask you to play along with it, and find out as much about them as you can? Ask them what players they are looking at, and which ones they are planning to offload. There'll be a drink in it for you.
Potter: No problem. In fact, I knew you would ask me that. You'll get my new contract typed up today, won't you?

I don't know Harry.

I was interested in how Todd Bellend was celebrating the new signings more than the Tommy Tickle.

Todd has a new plaything and he wants all the best toys in his sandpit, but for HIM to play with.

Just a sense.

This is one reason I would like the 'big 6' to bugger off to a so-called super league. It may just make the PL interesting in the same way the championship is interesting. Football is so skewed towards preserving the hegemony of the elite, it can be quite depressing.

I watch a lot of Championship. Compared to EPL it is.....rather poor quality.

OK I understand about scaling, and I enjoy women's football and the Paralympics. But....

Men's football at the elite level is....elite men's football. Taking the richest 6 clubs and their elite players out of the competition would be very sad as far as I'm concerned. Like being told I could only have windfall apples from now on, with the ripe ones on the tree being saved for Special People.

The thing that worries me about this, is Chelsea seem to want to build a new culture at the club. If they're not looking to throw money at him and demand instant success, then this might actually be the best opportunity he's going to get with a big club.

Would any manager seriously turn down the opportunity to earn 4x their salary and the chance to manage a team in the Champions League? If he's their number one choice, he's gone.

If I was earning £2m a year and was offered £8m bit with a shedload of unpredictability, I'd like to think that I'd say no thanks. But hey, it's extrinsic versus intrinsic drivers at the end of the day.

I hope you are right, and that Potter will smell that and stick with us. That would be hilarious as well as heart-warming.

I can't see him walking eyes wide open into the football equivalent of Trump Towers, if that's what it is....

This is all putin’s fault! If he hadn’t invaded Ukraine, Abramovitch wouldn’t have been forced to sell Chelsea …. Some septic wouldn’t have taken over and sacked a champions league winner to bring in someone he admires , ie Potter

It took potter a long time to get us to play like he wanted and he should be asking himself if the US owner and the money making machine he needs to get going, will he be given time to develop this team to how he wants to play!

The posh bit
What I genuinely do not understand is
A) why transfer window does not include managers
B) why we get 62 million fir a long haired Spanish **** but only 18m for the instigator of football ethos of the whole club. What a effing stupid buy out clause that is. He is worth so much to us.

I did exactly that when approached by our main competitor in IT Sales. I told the boss, went to the interview and harvested lots of good intel.

hadnt really considered they have new owners. so the old way of Chelsea operating is invalid.

im scared now.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
If Chelsea offer him the job, he will go.

More kudos, bigger club, more money, potential trophies, European football and so on, and so on....

The only issue being, how long before they sack him?

Precisely.

And if true, Tommy Tootle's high handed Marinhoesque 'buy success' and dig the players out after every defeat approach is why he was sacked. £240 million later.

Nobody wants that.

It is a good question, there is always another level to reach, but no project finishes 6 games into a season.
