Yes, he did, but he needed those first two seasons to get us to that consistent point. It is all a journey, however, agree entirely, to not even acknowledge what he did and his contribution to where we are now is just wrong.

There's a lot of short memories around! Hughton did a great job, getting us to the PL and keeping us there. Quite a few of us, TBH, were shocked - and not entirely happy! - when he was sacked.
Potter did a great job too, changing the style completely, and although the manner of his departure was disappointing, if you want to be picky, he left us two places higher than we finished the season under de Zerbi!
After a handful of games. In completed seasons he was nowhere near. Only one coach has taken us to Europe. And did Hyypia even go seven games without scoring?
We can all choose stats to suit our agenda.

I’d be quite surprised if he went to Palace. Not because I believe he has any feelings or loyalty to Brighton but because I don’t see the point. He’d be admitting that he couldn’t cope with a ‘big’ club.
Add to that the issue of ‘us’, but from a Palace fan view, as soon as he had a downturn (like not winning at home for 3 months….) they’d be all over it (as would we). It very rarely works out, Beneitez at Everton, Mourinho at Spurs to name a couple.

Potter could be a good fit with Palace. Fans I know keep on about how good the academy is and maybe Potter is the man to start giving them the chance to step up to the 1st team squad. Roy for whatever reason hasn't given the youth a chance, maybe in his eyes they aren't good enough.

You can acknowledge someone whilst accepting their faults. Its also possible to quote a stat and then ignore other evidence (like the 2 months it took after that watford game to get another win, or the painful 1-1 draw against them later that season?)
I think for some they just accept that while Potter was a very capable manager, given a lot of breathing space by Bloom and benefited from a strong level of recruitment. As indeed was Hughton (2 hugely exciting seasons in the championship and keeping us up for 2 seasons in the prem), Poyet (promotion, staying up and close to promotion) Garcia (close to promotion with a weaker squad) and now RDZ. But what will always count against Potter in my mind was his failure to build rapport until the very end, some very touchy comments, and long periods of banality (no goals, no wins etc).
In short he wasnt the messiah and eventually became one in a long line of very naughty boys.
Looking forward to this news breaking.
Fingers crossed that Pardew is returning to Palace.
