Audax has nailed this thread though - good couple of posts.

I'll take that. As someone who didn't have the foggiest about football in 2005 when I moved to the UK, only started caring even slightly when Australia made it to the World Cup for 2006 and then watched them lose to Italy thanks to a heartbreaking 90+ minute penalty. But it was Brighton that finally won me over - I'd moved to Brighton and loved the city, and when I finally heard the story of Brighton's slide towards oblivion and turn around to rise back through the leagues I had to start following. Started paying genuine attention in the Poyet years and followed ever since. One of these days, I must get to the ground to see a game live.

Not sure about that but I don’t think he’ll be to bothered if they poach our manager

In January I'd have driven him there myself. Today? Nah. Today I would be bloody annoyed if he left having just started to show us what it's all about. I'm probably in the same sort of area with the team and Potter as One Teddy Maybank and something both of us noticed at the City game was how good we looked from in the stadium compared to pre-lockdown. He's started to get me excited about next season. Blowing us out would be.......frustrating.

However, I would not lose my shit over it for days. As I've always consistently said, if we're always going to start from the POV of a long term plan and iterative development then there will be other coaches who can fulfil that. Brighton and Hove Albion is bigger than Potter or any other of our former or prospective manager / coaches.

He's not going to Spurs though. Bookies odds mean jack. That doesn't mean it's not a bigger job. It very obviously is. But it comes with more risk.

If the only thing you look at is the end-of-season table, then fine - you have a point. But ultimately, if you look at the 2 seasons under Hughton vs the seasons under Potter - we were headed for relegation with Hughton. The "potential" had been reached and we weren't showing any signs of being any better than a bottom 5 club. Under Potter, however ... the table position shasn't changed (yet), but the key difference is that potential you mention yourself. It's there, we can all see it, and it's a fair hypothesis to suggest that the upcoming season is make-or-break for Potter. He should be pushing us on to competing strongly for a top 10 finish. If we're bottom 5 again, then something is seriously amiss.

The trouble is potential and reality are two different things. Football is full of unfulfilled potential. Its exciting that we have that potential and we shouldn't forget it but some people seem to act as if we have fulfilled it and Potter has achieved it. As you say this season is make or break for Potter.

Now that is a very good post.

There is a transfer window open which may leave us weaker, and needing to bed in new players, he could have a tougher job than last season, and just as this season he has been judged on performances and not just on results, so he will next season, unless he goes to spurs, in which case he will be sacked if he doesn't get things sorted there before November.

No sauces, of course. Can’t believe it myself. Just feels like a poor fit but if somebody offered to treble my wage I’d do more or less anything (but then my actual job is a bit poo, so that’s a no brainer).

I hate the close season.

It's simply people re-wording others peoples posts on Twitter. When they type "I've heard" (which is very common on Twitter) they mean "I've read"

One of those accounts has their own YouTube "channel" with a whole 7 videos where they read out posts from Twitter.

Every club has them. There has been a recent trend for people to pass themselves as independent journalists or sources of news.

Oh, absolutely. As I said, it just sounds off to me. But it’s still part of why I hate the close season. Nothing to do but speculate and fret.

The real news on Twitter is that Potter has turned down Tottenham and would prefer the Everton job.

Illegal approaches eh?

In the Argus now. No approach made yet but we understand why they’d be interested. Doesn’t sound exactly like a “hands off” comment but I can only see the headline as the actual article is behind a paywall

I don't agree, Tony has made it clear that we need to start progressing.Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean top 10 finish but it does mean above 15th. He made it clear he was happy with the performances.

Graham Potter has a lot to do. He needs to keep Sanchez and White (if he is still here) progressing. He needs to get Alzate and Connelly to progress Connelly seems to be going through an of field crisis and Potter and the club needs to figure out how to help him (that could be either arm round the shoulder, kick up the backside or taken out of the spot-light by playing at a lower level and getting his focus on football back, its Potter and the clubs place to find the solution).

Are we going to get Lampty right with his injuries hes had. We have had Karbownik and Caicedo acclimatising since end of Jan. One was a goldenboy nominee last summer the other, one of the highest rated south American kids. Can he intergrate them? Will it be at the expense academy products coming through this season?

If we get these right we could make that progress Tony was on about even if we do sell players like Bissouma and we don't get all the players in that we want. Potter would then have earn't his reputation. It isn't easy and could go completely wrong but this is the route we have chosen to go down.

Genuinely can’t see who’d replace him [emoji20]

I was shocked when CH left and gutted, but never doubted that something would be in place.

This time we seem on the brink of something IMO, and I’m not sure I can see where we go….. and I wouldn’t want feckin Eddie Howe

If they are to be believed re Houghton/Potter, GPotts replacement has already been lined up.
