Just changing the subject slightly and not wanting to sound in anyway pro Chelsea, can anyone tell me how the saints player did get a red for the kick in the head he gave Azpiluceta? Not deliberate but dangerous. As someone who is still angry about Bissouma's red against Newcastle a couple of years doesn't make any sense

Always thought there could be an element of " The Emperors New Clothes " about Potter. I wasn't sure for a long time. The style changed but he didn't improve results and points dramatically until well into his third season. I couldn't make my mind up about his strategy. Were the constant team changes...1 ) tactical acumen...2) change for the sake of change...3)...he was indecisive and never really knew his best team...4)...all part of 'project Potter '...i.e...creating an image of a free thinking, flexible, astute manager, constantly keeping the opposition on their toes.
There was no consistency with his team at Brighton. Long winless runs. Then spurts of good form. Goalscoring completely drying up, then bursts of goals going in. Players don't buy into a project. That is boardroom level and to some extent fan level. Players want a consistent brief. They want a run in the side and want to trust the same teammates around them.
The Leeds game changed everything for me. His overreaction to a few gentle boos of frustration, touchline histrionics and swearing under his breath, followed by his desultory comment about history lessons and suddenly the veneer was shattered and the mask was down. This was a man hellbent on cultivating an image and a media presence and this tiny bit of ruffling was not acceptable.
He courted the media and they lapped him up. He sold himself well. Chelsea were sucked in and didn't really do their homework. Now the pattern, familiar to us, has re-emerged at an elite level and the discontent is ten times louder. The only question now is how much have Boehly and Co. bought into the project and how determined will they be to resist the toxicity within the fanbase. Potter is starting to undermine his own position with ill-judged statements post defeats. Chelsea fans don't want to hear that they lost because Southampton were ' well prepared '
If they decide to write off this season, then he won't just have to hit the ground running next season, he will have to be ripping up trees and hands up anyone who can actually see that happening?
He looks and sounds out of his depth. A man fighting to stay calm on the outside but desperate on the inside. I think, sooner rather than later, he needs to be put out of his misery.

Most people who said this when he made the move would say something like "because Chelsea are a basket case and sack a manager as soon as he loses a few games", which some, including me, would counter with "But that was the old Chelsea - we don't know if new Chelsea will operate in the same way, but there is some evidence from Boehly's tenure of the Dodgers that he is prepared to stick with his managers and give them time to get things right."

As soon as I make this post, I could look silly if news filters through that Potter has just been sacked, but I think the fact he's still in the job is already an indication that Chelsea aren't as trigger happy as they used to be.

Potter and Boehly are in this together. It reflects badly on both of them if it goes wrong. Irrespective of public proclamation - both are under pressure now; Potter from fans and pundits and Boehly from pundits and stakeholders. Neither of them, whatever they publicly say, thought it would go like this. We know better than anyone that The ‘Potter’ Way takes time but this vastly expensive squad should NOT be performing like the Brighton of three seasons ago. If Boehly sticks with Potter then he’s showing guts and resilience that might bode very well for Potter in the years to come.

'Could you imagine Potter managing Neymar or Ronaldo', responsed to with 'Ronaldo would have retired with about 50 career goals if he'd been coached by Potter his entire career', followed up by 'not bad for a left back' made me chuckle as well.
