The perfect job for GP imo. If they thought Bielsa was the Messiah, match made in heaven…no history lessons required if their fans boo a result either.

With backing he’d do very well there. I’d like him to have to do it from the Championship though

Most people who said this when he made the move would say something like "because Chelsea are a basket case and sack a manager as soon as he loses a few games", which some, including me, would counter with "But that was the old Chelsea - we don't know if new Chelsea will operate in the same way, but there is some evidence from Boehly's tenure of the Dodgers that he is prepared to stick with his managers and give them time to get things right."

As soon as I make this post, I could look silly if news filters through that Potter has just been sacked, but I think the fact he's still in the job is already an indication that Chelsea aren't as trigger happy as they used to be.

For me it was more the silly spending players and entitled fans wanting immediate success. That was where I’d have said he didn’t fit in. And so far that’s correct!

Graham is a manager who needs a pre-season to get the most out of his ideas. The players need to know and understand each other on and off the pitch to be able to play the fluid and mobile way he wants his teams to play. They need to go and get drunk together, do some teambuilding, work with ideas in a calm environment.

If Graham can survive the season in Chelsea, they will be very strong with GP in charge next year. But I struggle to see him remain in the job for more than another few weeks. After that I think he'll have a long, nice vacation and come back stronger and take charge of some "fallen giant" like Aston Villa, West Ham or similar.

Anyway, bit dubious you decided to come back after our first defeat in god knows how long, and lasted 20 days and not the full month you said, but happy to start a fresh and see where our relationship goes from here. I actually don't disagree with that.
Where I do have a problem with that argument is. You can use that is a Manager takes over a team or a squad of players who are not good enough and the squad needs to be overhauled. But that squad has been put together by plucking the supposed best from Clubs around the world.

If he makes it clear to the Owners that the players assembled can't play the way he wants then they should give him the time. However managing Prima Donna Players. They will pull you to pieces unless you have the correct mindset.

The perfect example of what I am on about is Eric Ten Hag at Man United. The Ronaldo situation could have broken him. But whatever he has said and agreed with their owners on that situation has obviously worked. To be afforded that luxury. Graham Potter needs some success on the pitch soon and the same goes with his relationship with fans which is going downhill fast .

Genuinely interested in how Winstano and MacAuley are earning their corn now. Go on their home page and there are no fewer than 31 people listed as first team squad. That includes five wingers and wing backs, even though one of the wingers was played by Potter at wing back. Their youth succession plan is already loaned out. Colwill, for example, is probably better than at least two of their five listed centre backs.

Couple the need to keep all of those players happy with the need for results and you have the perfect storm. It's no wonder they're going down the shitter. A coach who likes every player to have two positions trying to keep 31 overpaid egos happy, 31 overpaid egos trying to understand a coach who over intellectualises everything and spends most of his time sucking his teeth and muttering in Brummie, accompanied by a member of Abba and a Glaswegian pub player and it's no wonder they're struggling.

Those recruitment meetings must be HILARIO.

The longer they carry on with him the better I reckon. A new manager will get them winning in no time and make it tougher for us to get into Europe.

With regards to his next job that others have mentioned, I’m not sure it’ll be so easy to walk into clubs like Villa or West Ham. He’d have been well-received straight from us but, rightly or wrongly, his record at Chelsea will have an impact on his wider reputation. He’ll need to start strongly wherever he goes next or fans (and players) will very quickly be on his back. For all that some here think he’s being harshly treated, his results at Chelsea have been abysmal given the talent at his disposal. Pretty much any club in the division would be thinking hard about whether to get rid right now - let alone one that’s been spoilt by decades of buying success.

Totally agree. Not going to knock the last year with us, but first 2 1/2 results wise he was pretty average with a few long non winning streaks that may have wielded an axe at other clubs. He was lucky for the patience and support he got here.

I still think the majority of our success is based on our chairman and the clubs innovative recruitment of decent players.

He must love Monday morning……half a dozen 150k/week+ players queuing at his office door asking why they didn’t make the squad that lost to bottom of the league Saints.

TT came in mid season and turned the side into Champions league winners after Lampard did a Potter.

Yeh it kind of is but I also see Chelsea as a disgusting step further up than the others. As Bozza says, they may have changed.

Didn't keep track of how many days I was gone. Got nothing to do with the defeat however, the performance was fine (a lot better than the win against Bournemouth) and the result unlucky. It happens in football, every day - not something I'm going to rub in anyones face.

Of course. Owner and board is the key to any successful football club and Brighton is obviously among the best in that department. And that highly competent owner/board decided to hire Graham Potter, because he is a good manager. The club didn't end up in the top 10 "because of Potter" or "despite Potter". Building a club/team and getting results in various areas is a team effort.

We did, eventually so I imagine they will.

When they sack Plodder, I wonder if Winstanley et all will keep their job?

Bit of a major balls up by Todd Burgleuh if Potter is deemed to be fit to be excommunicated, denied a courtesy parking space, and told to leave the cones where he set them up because he won't be needing them where he's going.
