I'm not participating in these votes anymore. They are poisonous and divisive.

Yes, we show lots of promise and we play entertaining football. But, entertaining football without any end result is not entertainment.

These are the same problems we have faced all season and they have not been fixed, by the manager, the players or the recruitment strategy. Something is clearly very wrong. This stopped being 'bad luck' about 12 games ago.

The board have got it wrong by not investing in a striker.
The manager is getting it wrong by not working with what he has.
The players are getting it wrong by not putting these chances away.

Am I entertained? No. Am I excited by this team? Not when I see us squander chances 'week-in, week-out' and fail to get results.

Sadly, the current set up is not getting the results I want or expect, and there is nothing wrong with expectation.

I agree with all that you say, and I’m old enough to have watched us during the Bailey years which whilst many said wasn’t entertaining at least we got the results needed on our budget.

As I said in another thread our 4 'strikers' have 4000 minutes of game time and have managed 8 goals between them and just 2 assists. That's like 1 goal every 6 games between them, oh and 1 assist per season!

I don't know who's at fault but what I see on the pitch is a (generally) slow, ponderous build up which does allow us to get players forward but also allows 'them' to get their players back. Result is we have 5 players in their box and they have 10. So we do get lots of chances but with no room or time to properly operate it's not surprising we can't score.

That sounds to me like it's down to the Manager/Coaching

Conversely not passing across to a player in acres of space and or skying/slicing the 1 or 2 sitters a game is down to the players.

I think Potter has to change some of our play to get upfield quicker but then I don't think we have the players to do the business when we get there ..... sorry state of affairs

And every team knows it too

But none of our forward options can score goals, that is the problem. Shuffling them around doesn't seem to change anything. Some people were calling for Connolly alongside maupay and now he's getting slagged off.

How do yo know, Potter has picked Maupay week in week out. He is never biut never dropped. Drop him, because he does not desrve to befirst on the team sheet and try other strikers or create a temporary forward drom someone else in the squad aka Sutton. Do not just do nothing and keep picking Maupay. Its dreadful management.

As as an Albion fan and after watching loads of football matches over the years ,i am wondering if instead of keep trying to pass the ball in to the net like people would say about Arsenal under Wenger ,why not players drive with the ball from outside the box into the box and try and dribble with pace and not dive and get more penalties by the fact the other team have crowded the box a bit like our second penalty where Gross is scrapping for the ball .All of the lower teams are crowding the Penalty area against us and we have hardly any points against them .The players would have to be ready for the counter attack if the ball goes loose and the other team hit it long .We have not got players like Stirling who can do it but we could still try .I would be interested to see stats of players running straight into the box with the ball because you get stats for everything these days .I do think supporters know a lot about football as they are watching the same as the Coaches every week .As for Penalties players need to watch Matt Le Tissier ,47 out 48 scored .I have not seen any of his goals for a long time but from what i can remember he aimed for the same area of the goal every time.

It would help if the practised looking where they are shooting. Our lot stare at the ball, take a wild swing and trust to luck. They are like a 10 year old playing for the cubs when shooting.

Honestly. The fact that we keep having to ask this question is enough for me.

We need a fresh approach. The players look so low on confidence.

But we’re not. It’s just one guy who keeps making “Potter in our out” after every single game.

And bare in mind each and every time the vast majority of NSC support GP. Not saying who’s right or wrong but you are sharing a minority view.

This is all in the mind and the pressure from being in the relegation zone and not being calm as in Murray. Murray would have scored at least 2 yesterday .The Connolly chance he would have taken the pace off the ball and the Penalties he did miss the odd one but more likely he would have scored both .This is the problem we have now .Even Palace fans used to pine for Murray after he had gone for years.

I'm not sure, I guess there are different ways to skin a cat.

I sit watching this stuff thinking we should let the opposition play out a bit more, not on the break but more in the middle third, that would then at least allow us a bit of space when we get to their area. But it does rely on fast thinking and fast moving and I'm not sure I see much evidence of our ability to pull that off.

It's great when we have so many shots on goal but when there are 10 players in their box it's nothing but a useless statistic

Penalties is just symptomatic of lack of confidence/trying too hard ... it's not really the root of our problems although mightily frustrating ofc

Yesterday we had two professional footballers fail to hit the target from a penalty and an incompetent referee disallowing a perfectly good goal. Inexcusable from professional footballers who kick a ball around all day and a professional referee who has all the tools he needs.

How anyone can blame the manager for these things is beyond me. And then the Palace game, we utterly dominated and got done by a sucker punch.

Prior to that we were 6 games unbeaten in the league. The negative I would attribute to GP would be sticking with Maupay, I just feel he should be rested. But that’s not the reason we lost yesterday.

They have not been shooting properly for 18 months. Watch them. They stare at the ball, take a wild swing and trust to luck. They just dont have any awareness about who is near them, where the goal is or where the keeper is. Dreadful. No idea what they do all week in training.

They don’t actually. All round the pitch players want the ball and are comfortable on it playing without fear. There is a single aspect of our game that we’re low on confidence and that is finishing. Now I’m not a football manager, but however we played, fresh approach or not, I don’t see different tactics changing that. This is about the players and their belief in front of goal. They have belief in all other areas so it’s not really management or coaching.

So does Potter strike you as the sort of bloke who’ll sit in Tony’s office demanding a proven striker who can also take penalties or is he the sort who’ll take what Ashworth gives him?

Are you really inventing a narrative of Potter’s behind the scenes relationships with others at the club to further a cause of replacing him?

Out

A tactician he may be but lacks man management skills , players confidence and morale are rock bottom , and he doesnt appear to have power to reverse that.
Yesterdays forward line was not premier league quality
Maupay , Trossard are championship players at best.
Connoly and Mac are league 1 at best.

Substitutions are always the wrong choice , and they never come out second half showing improvement , no fire no passion.
Lots of nice passing moves in the middle of the park is not going to keep us up .

So he can go for me , and take Ashworth with him , been a slow but steady decline in team performance since his arrival,
What does he actually do ?

ID give Lampard the job till end of season then if we stay up give him the gig,

What would Lampard bring to our squad, can you list some specifics?

Do you actually watch us or just listen on the radio and watch motd?

A team with rock bottom confidence doesn’t create 66 chances in 3 games and dominate. That’s a team high in confidence but lacking in one area - finishing.

Absolutely no way out performances have been in decline. And despite immense frustration neither have results given we are still at 1ppg.

No. That's an interpretation you've created in your head based on your own agenda.

Simster wants rid of our "useless strikers". I'm wondering if GP agrees and how far he's prepared to push it to get what he wants.

My guess is that next season they'll all be here except Welbeck and we'll be having this whole conversation again. The only variable will be if we're underachieving in the Premier League or the Championship.

You didn’t imply Potter is under Ashworth’s thumb then and wouldn’t demand upgrades in the striker department? Are you saying I misread that?

Maupay and Connolly as our lead strikers in the EPL next season.

Shudder.

No, I asked a binary question, equally giving the option to answer that Potter would strongly represent for better attacking options
