Not true. We cancelled Keane's trial before he even got here.


That's right. McCarthy was already here and had recommended us to Roy and vice versa, but Roy wanted us to pay for his travel to come and have the trial, and we refused. So the trial never happened.

D'oh!

I am fairly sure that he and Paul McCarthy came here and stayed with a family in Portslade when he was about 16 and got homesick and returned home after the first few days.

It would probably have been either Derek McGrath or Brian McKenna that came over with McCarthy.

It is in Keane's book about Brighton cancelling the trial before it began, so he never got here to be home sick.

I think this thread proves how good our current youth set up is, granted there have been a few gems signed from non-league clubs but the majority pale into mediocrity.
