Was Ian Culverhouse playing non-league when we signed him or did we pick him up on a free?

Jarrett is a bit of a push to be considered non league, he had been released by MK Dons and was training with Lewes when he was recommended to us by someone at Lewes. He was unattached so wasn't technically non-league when we signed him.

I am sure Culverhouse was at Kingstonian before he signed for us.

John Templeman (From Arundel) - in the days we did not have a youth set up Yapton's JT was the only local sussex player in the late 60's and early 70's.

Eric Young (From Slough)

Billy Lane brought Jimmy Langley in from Guildford City but he had previously played for Leeds I believe.

'Twas the other way round mate. Langley was at Guildford first when Billy Lane was their manager and then went to Leeds. Lane brought him to the Albion when he took over at the Goldstone in 1953.

JT's a good spot. The only other local player I can think of around this time is Brian Powney (Seaford?) but not sure whether he played non-league before joining the Albion.

Billy Lane was manager of Guildford City and didnt he bring Langley with him from Guildford as Jimmy lived in Hillingdon at the time, so his granddaughter told my eldest son.

I know that eventually he finished up playing for Hillingdon Borough before they were shafted over their ground and he took over as club steward of Hillingdon British Legion Club.

Hillingdon Borugh were shafted more so than us I think the scenario went something like this but I cannot remember their names so :

Mr A chairman of Club Mr B and Mr C directors of club.
Mr B Chairman/Owner of property company Mr A and Mr C directors of that company.
Mr C Chairman/ Owner of House Building Company Mr A and Mr B directors of same company.

Mr A sold ground to Mr B who engaged Mr C to build houses. All 3 made a fortune.

Peter Ward and Eric Young were sensational signings from non-League clubs. Young did not get into the team straightaway.
