We have now played 3 out of 5 of our ‘nightmare’ re-start

We’ve won one , drawn one, lost one.
Our goal difference is only down by 2, we have 4 more points.

I would have snatched your hand off for this scenario 3 weeks ago.

Never mind the fact that all the teams below us have been turd since the restart, and mainly against mid-table opposition as well.

Positive? I think people will start to question Potter and I think that is a good thing. Sometimes you need to know who your best players are and what formation to play them in.
I look at Dunk, Webster, White, Burn, Duffy, Bernardo, March, Lamptey, Molumby, Propper, Mooy, Bissouma, Alzate, Ali J, Trossard, Mc, Maupay and Connolly and I see the potential for a good team. But they need a bit more consistency (especially given many of them are relatively young).
I hope over the summer he reflects and realises that he isn't a tactical genius- nobody is. Teams are successful because they work hard and because players know their positions and roles inside out. I hope games like this, where he so obviously got it wrong, cause that moment of introspection. If that happens and we make 2 or 3 genuinely good signings we can push on next year. If not it'll be more of the same.

Absolutely this. Agree 100% with everything you have said.

Will it matter though?

Judging from the match thread United are shit, just made them look good. If Villa, Bournemouth and West Ham just use a better tactic they will 100% certainly win.

You sound as if you're prepared to place a wager on this outcome?

We were far better in the 2nd half than the 1st
We didn't capitulate and only let 3 in, which has helped keep the GD healthier than the rest
Trossard looked good

Welcome to NSC,

We will take it that you are not happy with the last 3 results, since you joined?

Falmer, soon...
Interestingly i thought Potter set up well tactically first half.
The shape was right and the problem wasnt tactical, it was the players execution. The low block wasnt aggressive enough defensively and when the ball was won we were very poor in transition and sloppy which invited more pressure.

Every day is a learning day.

Hopefully Potter can get us over the line and re-set for next season...however long that might be. He can use the experience gained from this season to push us a bit further up the table next year.

Honestly, I’m not all that disheartened.

The first half was very poor but even then there were a few slick passing moves that just didn’t have the end product. The problem was lazy defending and an in form United. We kept it down to three, and we threatened in the second half, and should have scored one or two ourselves. Potter got to do his tactical experimentations on a game that doesn’t really matter and hopefully he learnt something from it.

Norwich, Southampton, Burnley and Newcastle. We need probably 4 points. Nothing has changed.

If we were offered 3 draws against Arsenal, Leicester and United, how many would have taken it?

It's all about Saturday,

In our current league position, there's absolutely no harm in losing to a United team who, unlike previous seasons, were clearly up for it and hungrier from the start.

It also gave Potter another chance to see which of the players he thinks will be able to make the step up from relegation candidates to comfortable mid-table outfit.

Based on this evening, we can expect a busy close season.
