Since when has it become socially acceptable to publically lambast and discriminate against people because of their background and ubringing?

I have seen countless examples of this on TV, radio and social media since the Tories came into power. Imagine if it was done the other way round?

So did I - it must run in the family!

Anyway, it became acceptable when the rich and wealthy continue to earn millions whilst us plebs struggle to pay our bills.

Right, so it's an envy thing.

Vicky Pollard. A character created by two publically educated millionaires to poke fun at the lower classes.

The term Chav is the classic example isn't it ?

thats about peoples attitude, not their background.

its always been popular and acceptible to knock the well off as long as i can recall, and they usually dont give a crap. recently of course its become more barbed and cover a broader spectrum, to include those who have done well for themselves and made a success. eitherway, its envy and jealousy, because as we've seen first hand with the last 10 years, every socialist will take the glass of sparkling wine if offered. and thats fine, because they've worked hard to get there.

Chavs is about behaviour rather than backgorund/upbringing. i.e. there are plenty of poor (and very poor) people who are NOT chavs.

I think the point is, the media/public want to bash "posh" people but it's not acceptable to bash poor people. e.g. some are saying (rightly or wrongly) that Cameron/Osbourne can't relate/understand the issues of those struggling on the breadline. On the flipside, someone from these backgrounds cannot relate to those with reasonable jobs up the the rich. e.g. those poor people really shouldn't be in power as they can't understand the issue of those of us with mortgages to pay, kids to send to nursery, balancing both parents working etc. Those poor people cannot understand how business work, how to get the rich to invest etc. Can you imagine the uproar if politicians said all this? Yet it's OK the other way round....

FWIW I think they should ALL be able to say what they want about everyone but it needs balance. I will judge those on their actions, not what "class" they came from. Probably why I'm happy to know/speak to people of all walks of life rather than just those of one "class". People are decent (or not) irrespective of their supposed class as we should judge them on their actions.

Right, so it's an envy thing.

I really think the "politics of envy" is one of the most ridiculous concepts around. If I am against fox-hunting, it is supposed to be the politics of envy - what rubbish.

There are seriously rich people who manage to use their wealth to do seriously good stuff for people worse off than themselves.

The current posh basing bit is surely more about multi-millionaire cabinet ministers making decisions which favour the rich and militate to make the poor poorer, or to treat them inhumanly. I genuinely think that most of the cabinet - even that most people - don't realise what life is like for those who are really up against it.

I should have been more specific.

In political debate, the vocal outpouring of abuse is always one way.

Of course in life in general, both spectrums are demonised.

That was a reply to a specific comment.
