Portsmouth's chief executive David Lampitt says he has been left "gutted" by the club's latest financial crisis. Pompey's parent company, Convers Sport Initiatives entered administration in November, forcing the Championship club to search for new owners. Administrators says the club are close to naming new owners with Italian Joseph Cala among the front runners.
Giuseppe "Joe" Cala is involved with a company called "Undersea" that runs ships - "a new ocean leisure concept incorporating the elegance of a luxury undersea atmosphere habitat". With today's news from the Mediterranean, he's chosen the right time to reveal himself.
Edit ... He doesn't actually run ships. He apparently has a business plan that says that, if he can borrow enough money, he'd like to own a ship. Me too.
He does have some experience in football, though. He got involved with Salernitana in Italy's Serie C. Three weeks later, they went bust.
