Pompey not happy

He criticised our gamesmanship:

On Saturday we got to see just what upset the Pompey players so much. Brighton's players whine, grizzle, go down easily and generally make a meal of anything going. In free-kick terms they are a selling club and against Pompey they had a referee, in Mr Swarbrick, who was buying everything going.

But then went on to say:

Five more bookings today to add to the five at the Riverside and three in midweek against Barnet, suggests Steve Cotterill's side hasn't lost its ill-disciplined streak. While last season it might have been excused by the 'world's against us' mentality soldering together a squad operating in trying circumstances, now it smacks of petulance.

We're either cheats or they are "ill-disciplined". Which is it Pompey?

edit: See this point has been picked up already!

If we are at best, "average", it doesn't bode well for them does it? Still I wish them all the best in their obvious up coming relegation dogfight....

I get the feeling we'll see a lot of this type of reporting/posting this season... Don't like it up em do they?

Swansea play a similar game to us.. Did they get all this bull last season I wonder?

Sounds like all the whining and grizzling is coming from Portsmouth. And I, for one, couldn't be happier.

Pompey have always had their fair share of cloggers/ hoofers throughout history

Alan Ball's teams featured the likes of Noel Blake, Gavin Maguire, Vince Hilaire etc

I'm trying to think if I was surprised at their tactics. You'd think with such a small squad, Cottril would ensure they kept the discipline. I can see them putting out reserves soon.

13 bookings in 3 games tells it's own story! are they surprised that our players take advantage of some bully boy tactics?
Maybe the writer needs to look closer to home than at opposing players style of play???

This struck me as well - you can't call Brighton a bunch of roll-around pansies who faked every injury and then point out that your team are averaging more than four bookings a game and be taken seriously.

I don't think they'll go down this season-unfortunately. They'll probably get rid of Cotterill just before Christmas so the new man can spend the last instalment of their Prem parachute payments, bring in a few more seasoned cloggers and keep them just above the drop zone.

It's great that little old Brighton, the club everybody liked to pat on the head in a patronising way for years, (all the while we weren't a threat), are now rankling the likes of Portsmouth and Palace-and we're only 2 games into the season. Tells us how far we've come.

I wonder if they'll pay their FA fines @ 7p in the £?

Great isn't it?

All those years living beyond their means, being championed by that Dinneage wanker whilst he ignored us every week, now they don't have a pot to piss in although it'll probably be next season before they go into serious freefall. It'll be good for them to struggle for a few years and for us to see the undecided football fans of the far reaches of West Sussex choose The Albion. I think the shift has already begun, long may that continue.

This Benjani signing is vaguely interesting. Apparently until Pompey came in for him, the only offer he'd had was a short term deal at Stockport County

So typically Pompey though. Sign another past-his-best 'name', on a salary that could cover three competent young players without clubs, to bulk out their squad.
