off the high horse please, its not just us in the west who aspire to have all the nice post industrial, consumerist trinkets. China could have stayed out of the global markets and shunned the consumerism, but they want the wealth just as much as any other nation - at any cost.

another perfect example of the way society has "embraced" looking after our planet when they think "i'm doing my bit!" when in actual fact its doing bugger all.
The planet is f***ed and its too late to save it!

Another website that could be described as fantastic or not.

See China, see us not so long ago and plenty of other countries that were developing.

There was an article recently about China and a new approach to going green, but can't find it or remember much about it. :dunce:

At least they run trains to their full capacity..!

Setting an example is important. Whatever one does MAY not make a massive impact, but it will contribute to a better standard of living in the short run.

But still we buy stuff made in China, and we have shunned stuff made much more ethically in Europe becasue it is a bit cheaper. The West is culpable in what has happened in China, regardless of their attitude towards poverty, pollution etc. We can all try to act responsibly, I try to, you might do, but for so long now big business has made its move, for profit, and stuff the consequences. I am all for a Buy British, Buy European approach, but sadly, as has been pointed out on here, it is probably too late, the place is f***ed.

Anyone fancy being a bit more depressed? Have a look at this.

current work

THIS PLANET IS f***ed.

Shocking.

There was an excellent exhibition at the fishing museum two summers ago. It encouraged you to pick up discarded plastic found on the beach and the lady would turn it into 'art'.

Apparently two in three seabirds have plastic lodged in their stomachs and there is a MAHOOSIVE collection of rubbish (the size of Texas and growing) floating about in the Atlantic.

Sadly I can't find any reference to the pictures, in Spectrum, the photo-journo section, of the Sunday Times magazine, from a week or 2 ago.

Anywhohow, it was marble/granite mining across the globe.

All very striking photo's but the most thought provoking one was:-

Looking down into a gapping whole, with the blocks of rock removed a la lego, and a giant truck in the bottom, looking like a dinky toy.
It never said how deep the hole was, or was going to be, but it was a head-shakingly pointless rape of the planet.

I have friends who adopted 2 Chinese baby girls. They flew over and picked them up from an orphanage. Chinese see boys as a blessing for the family, and will occasionally dump off daughters - as they are only allowed to have one child.

Weird, and wrong.

Apologises as it's hardly the place, but I am curious to know why your friends felt the need to adopt Chinese babies.
