I would think that was bit of p..s taking by Gus towards the reporter

I'm not sure it was... He says he knows David, Vicente and Dobbie are good but he doesn't know who the best penalty taker on the pitch was - and he leaves it to the players to decide...

It's a bloody joke if that's the case. We've had problems with penalties for the past 3 seasons and it's pretty clear why - if we never practice them and no-one is a designated penalty taker. It was like watching an Under-12 match on Saturday with everyone looking at each other, Orlandi asking to take it and Barnes taking the ball like a 'Billy Big Balls' only to put it straight down the keeper's throat - again!

It's not the hardest thing to sort out and am seriously worried that this is a problem that's been going on for years - and we haven't even bothered to address it.

No we haven't. We've had a problem with penalties for 2 of the last three seasons. Last year we scored 10 of 12. One of those misses was when our regular penalty taker was not on the pitch.

And even the season before was only so bad because we kept changing the penalty taker. Barnes scored 3.5 out of 5 (one was saved, but he scored the follow up so 4 of his 5 pens resulted in goals) and Wood scored 4 of 5. The problem was when one player missed, someone else took the next one, resulting in Bennett and Murray missing their 2 pens each, and dicker missing one of the two he took.

Penalties are a different propersition to normal shots / play and we haven't seen the vast majority of those take pens so hard to say........ 1 who deffo shouldn't be taking them though is Barnes and also doubt CMS is the best choice as seems to have one go to penalty and then not mix it up. Random players like defenders and keepers could be far better than any 'attacking' player and they need to decide in training on a couple of takers and give them a few each in league games to decide.

For what it's worth guessing though......... Dobbie

Yes you want power but a little player can shift their weight and change their choice of placement later if the keeper moves too early. Having played at an even higher level he's also probably not going to be as prone to pressure as some others in our young squad. Interesting to see Bridge take some for this reason but don't think ever been called on for England (not that he'd be playing in the quarters etc. that went to pens would he?)

Can someone explain why CMS was dropped from taking them? I thought he did well - the one he had saved by Kenny was a great save in my opinion. Surely we should have stuck by him?

12 penalties in the Championship last season? Really?

I can think of 5 - and we missed 2. Not great in my book - but if we had 12 (can't believe I'm missing 7...), then I bow to your superior knowledge.

The whole season, including cup games. I've included the penalty shoot out.

I've seen CMS take 3 penalties and he's hit all 3 straight down the middle.
