Polite Request

As I've been unable to secure a disabled parking place at the Amex I've been left with the choice of either missing the match I've waited 14 years for or attempt to use public transport, So wheelchair on the train it is.

Now i'm not expecting too many problems getting there but travelling on crowded trains on the way back could be a different matter, Being at an uncomfortable height in a wheelchair and having travelled on busy trains in the past there is a number of problems I do encounter so this is where the polite request comes in to it.

If you happen to find yourself on a train to Brighton and your standing near a slightly overweight middle aged man cowering in a wheelchair could you please refrain from the following if possible...

1...Whacking me around the head with things.....(Handbags and manbags are a particular problem.)

2...Tripping over me....(for some reason it's allways my fault people dont look where they're going.)

3...Sitting on my lap....(pretty women are exempt from this one.)

4...Lastly and most importantly can you please not stand in a position where I end up with your bum in my face,....(It's happened before and it's not nice.)

Any help in these matters would be much appreciated and would make my journey a little easier.

Many thanks and Up the Albion! :albion2:

when you travel by train do you have to ring in advance to get assistance eg the ramp ect onto the train or do the train staff just automatically sort this out when they see a wheelchair user on the platform ?

Normally they are very helpful when they see you, but I did the having experienced it myself in the wheelchair last week it is every man ( & woman) for himself. No ramps, no help. Note to British Bulldog, just play skittles ( extra points for an away fan)

I hear ya Bro. I know and have experienced everything you said BB. I am using my scooter at the Amex, because I am lucky enough to live close by. But if I had to use my chair, I'm sure I'd have started this exact same thread. Enjoy the game fella.

Your supposed to ring Southern and let them know what train your travelling on for them to have a ramp ready but as I hav'nt got a clue what train i'll be able to get on post match it's a bit difficult. Thankfully I can get out of the wheelchair to get on and off a train while Mrs Bulldog does the wheelchair as long as i dont get people start barging past me, Thats when I run the risk of ending up on the deck.

FFS, if anyone reading this sees BB on the way to or from the game struggling to get on or off the train please do the decent thing and give him a hand. It is going to be a stressful and emotional experience anyway, sod getting pissed around by inconsiderate people into the bargain.

Enjoy the game BB!

Indeed. And get straight to the front of the queue on the way back. There's not a person there who would begrudge you that. Have a great day BB

1. I don't have a handbag
2. That was your fault
3. If you're wearing a Brighton top, you've got to expect some love
4. Look, I've already apologised for that, and for the wind

Hope you have a great day
