Well the journey went a lot better than expected thanks to the help of Railway staff, Police and Stewards. Met up with another wheelchair fan at Lancing where we caught the 1247 to Brighton. Getting on and off that train was easy because the guard got the ramp out for us at both ends of the journey. Once in brighton a member of staff noticed us and between her and a policeman they created room for us to get on the train to Falmer and again provided a ramp for us to get on the train and the guard used a ramp to get us off the train at Falmer.

Post match we decided to avoid the immediate rush and went for a couple of pints and headed to the station about 6ish, As we approached the station a couple of stewards ushered us straight on to the station and told us they had decided to use the front coach of each train for disabled fans. It was'nt the club that had organised it apparently but something the stewards had decided to do and again between them, Railway staff and the Police getting on the train was simple. Getting back to Brighton saw the only problem we had because we did'nt have a ramp to get off the train but we had plenty of offers of help from fellow fans and with the exception of one stroppy woman who complained we were holding her up because she had another train to catch every one around us were brilliant and very understanding. The last leg of the journey from Brighton to Lancing was trouble free as again thanks to staff we had ramps both ends.

All in all it was a very good journey both ways and I would like to say a big thanks for all the Railway staff, Police, stewards and fellow fans who helped make our day both special and memorable. I also had the pleasure of meeting Lord B and his lovely wife Roz at the ground today and if you read this Roz how you are still walking around with your ankle the way it is is beyond me and I hope you manage to get it sorted out before long.

Just one last thing I managed to get through the day without any Whacks, Trips, Bums in my face and sadly no pretty girls on my lap.

I was looking for this thread after reading it yesterday. Brilliant, and the stewards at Falmer should get a special mention. Stewards with brains are hard to find at any club.

Likewise al, common sense is a much under-rated quality...despite hiccups elsewhere it is good to see our stewards are up to the mark.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the game BB, I heard the second goal on R5 as I was driving home from a game elsewhere...which was entertaining enough, would love to have swapped it for being at Falmer.

It was awesome Gully even Mrs Bulldog could'nt contain her excitement when the winner went in, It was her 1st Brighton game yesterday and having previously been to Wembley and Stamford Bridge she rated yesterdays atmosphere as the best she's ever witnessed.

Glad it all went well BB.
Using the front coach for disabled fans is very sensible. That way, ramps are only needed in one place. Saves all the messing around with 2 or 3 separate coaches. Also, they can control how many fans go in there to minimise any crowding issues.

It was a brilliant idea that worked well so full credit to the people who thought of it.

Also they probably appreciated the fact that you were willing to hang around until it was a bit quieter to make things easier. A bit of give and take goes a long way, whether you're in a wheelchair or not. Glad you had a great day!
