Think I agree with ENREST on this (always a first time for everything). If Brighton supporters were indeed acting like louts in the ground (and I've seen plenty of that at away games - unfortunately), then possibly the police have some justification.

Is it beyond the wit of the Police to be able to differentiate a small group from 2k others? Apparently not so heaven help this particular guy because lazy streotyping condems him already with no right of appeal.

This. Did it to me with my son in the early noughties. Avoidable tiresomeness is one thing. Unavoidable shit forced on me . . .We ended up lost, a long way from the car, while Croydonian spotty youth and fat older blokes with no hair ran up and down the streets in an alarming manner. That was the last time I went. I vowed to never go back. Nothing to do with the so called rivalry, just on the basis of my away day experiences. The club is shit, the police they liaise with are shit, and the sooner they are relegated into oblivion the better.

People running up the street in an "alarming manner" is why I don’t do marathons, but not enough to put me off going to away games.
Brighton Palace ?……love it, warts and all…….wouldnt miss it.

I'm not into throwing beer around on the concourse, probably because I'm not aged 18 or 19 and don't like wasting money.
But reading through the beer throwing thread it doesn't seem that is loutish behaviour, but young fans having fun.
One post mentioned stewards thinking it was funny.

I've seen beer throwing at many games even at the Amex, if the stewards are happy to stand and watch I'm not sure anyone throwing beer thinks they are doing wrong.

No excuse for the disgusting behaviour of the police here. But I'm sure they'll all have got together and "got their story straight" so that even if all charges against this poor bloke are thrown out, they won't be in any trouble.

Total disgrace. Some of these ******** just use any situation like this to let out their inner thug.

Would be very interested to hear what happens re this guy's season ticket (if true) as there should be total bloody uproar if the club doesn't back him rather than the violent tits who attacked him.

Ostensibly, that is a very shocking misappropriation of police authority. I would not be surprised if it was completely unwarranted as I have seen stuff like that from our police in Brighton against palace before. I wonder what led up to this point?

Can only comment on what I saw and we were right at the front of the kettle and had no problem. Even showed one copper a picture of Dale Stephens as he was the spitting image of him!! As for the Palace mob, not sure the Police knew where they were going to show up. As we were walking towards the station they obviously got wind of them and a load of coppers went running down the hill to block them off.

It's not great being treated like that but it is the only fixture in the calendar where it happens. Been to pretty much every away ground in the premier league and it happens at no other. We know at the Amex that the Palace game is the only one where there is potential for trouble.

I'm 63 years old. Been there, done it. The kids of today don't understand hooliganism of the 70's when going to a football match meant getting done over by the police or the oppo fans or both. Luckily we at Brighton had a very good reputation and as such were treated with a little more respect. Sheffield and Cardiff were two exceptions and I didn't return to either for over 30 years.
But at Selhurst on Saturday I was shocked by the away fans who were acting just like the old days. Many were moving along the rows to get closer to the home fans and not just verbal abuse. Standing on the seats or a wall hurling abuse at them. Now I don't see this at the 'big' away games and I think it is because tickets go to the top fans for those matches. At the end of the match, whilst many made their way outside, still a few insisted on staying in the ground, trying to get to the oppo fans despite a line of coppers being in their way. There are a few, and I emphasise a few, who spoil it for the rest of us. Do you really think that left alone all 2000 fans would have walked hand in hand with the local constabulary to be put on a train with a 'have a safe journey'? No way. Did the police behave badly, yes but only a small minority. Did we behave ourselves, sadly not but only a small minority.
And next is Millwall. Please represent our club responsibly. My hope is that the police will be out in force to protect us rather than attack us. Either way don't give them any excuses.

Only fixture in our calendar, I suspect it goes on with other local derbies much the same as Saturday for us

The whole journey back to the station was a bit of a shambles to be fair, as it always is. Even more worrying was Darren Balkham congratulating himself on Twitter about how well it had all gone.

The Palace fans in the side street, the Police knew they were there but instead of pushing them right back to the end of the street, let them stand about 20 feet away.

The Police at the front constantly stopping for no apparent reason but not telling anyone at the back.

Holding around 30 fans back outside the station making them miss the train and then claiming it was full when it clearly wasn’t.

The man who got arrested. As other people say, you only see part of it but you clearly see him early in the video being pushed around but he does nothing between then and when he was taken down to warrant his arrest. If he did something before the video started why was he not arrested then.

Most of the Police were decent. Some seemed to be bouncing of the walls.

I have watched the video a number of times attempting to see anything I've missed. I've come to the conclusion innocent people are being pushed without any provocation. Rightly they are justified to turn round and question the actions of the police. The police, as is typical of the Met, decide to assault the man.

I too have encountered a similar event a few years ago up there. We were being pushed towards the station. Those at the back being pushed hard up to the rest. An elderly gent with a walking stick was struggling, the police started to push him, he tripped. I managed to catch him. For his safety we walked over to a front garden of a house. the owner asked if he was ok as he had seen the incident. The police came over demanding we joined the rest. I told them to get lost. (well I used heavier language). The homeowner offered to take the man until all the fuss had died down. He declined but we walked slowly up to station without an more harassment.

Appalling behaviour and completely unjustified by the Police here as the fan did nothing to merit that response. The Police actions don't surprise me though, i was at the 5-0 loss and those at the front of the kettle were being hit by the Police using their truncheons whilst claiming that their actions were "for our own safety" when the fans being hit had done nothing to provoke such a response.

I hope the club see this video and see that banning this fan would be a miscarriage of justice and that his season ticket is rightly returned asap.
