Plymouth...do you feel this team should be champions

Someone mentione Jason Bent as the class player- if you speak to Plymouth fans, they don't rate him highly at all.
Everything goes through Friio, though they still seemed to do alright without him when he was suspended recently. He's the driving force in their midfield, and scores goals too- notice that Argyle don't have a Leon type figure at the top of the goalscoring charts. They seem to be scoring from all over the pitch.
The other one they rave about is the (currently injured) keeper Larrieu. Though whenever I've seen him he's been dire, flapping at crosses all over the place.

Bent was 100 time better than any of our midfielders that August afternoon.

He managed to get Sheff Wed relegated and didn't do that brilliantly with Barnsley. Ok they got promoted but look at where they are now. Right there, with us.

If Plymouth keep up this form then I can see them being Champions for sure. I think the automatic promoted places are gone and all that is up for grabs is a play off place. I can't see any one else making a challange. Then again I could be wrong

Jason Bent is ok if he has time on the ball, but if you hastle him he's crap. Plymouth's strength is that they are a very well balanced team with goals coming from all through the team. Their home support now make a lot of noise because of the new stands, their away support is about the same as ours - as long as they are up there - if not it's crap. Most seasons I hardly ever see Plymouth cars on the road when I'm wending my merry way to watch the Albion. Having said all that I really believe that they will be champions, after watching the 7-0 drubbing of Cheaterfraud. The way to beat them is to get at them from the word go - they don't have a Charlie Oatway in the middle and I've been told that the midfield tends to crumble if they are put under pressure. But are we good enough to do it?

Greetings chaps, debut posting on here from an Argyle supporter.
Interesting to read your comments and encouraging to see that so many of you think we will be returning to the promised land after 12 years of exile. Some Argyle supporters are getting a bit carried away, while others of us prefer to take it gently - and hope it doesn't go teets up, like it did for those arrogant lot from Ashton Gate last season.
The secret to Argyle's success this season has been that the squad is settled, we've had a year in this division with modest strengthening, the players know their jobs and most can play in more than one position, which gives remarkable versatility (Lee Hodges started with us at left midfield, then had a spell at left back, somtimes gets called upon to play up front for spells and is currently holding down a central midfield berth. Oh, and he's emergency keeper if anything happens to Luke McCormick).
There is a remarkable team spirit but still great competition for places - a player gets suspended or injured and he's got to wait his turn to get back in, with pretty much every player in good form at the moment. The insprirational David Friio only got back in last Sunday week when Paul Wotton served his one game ban for reaching 5 yellows, but as was rightly said above, we seem to have learnt to cope without him if need be. We also seem to be getting some luck this season (but mostly rubbish refs).
Interesting comments about Jason Bent. Opinion is very much split on him. he can have good games, but too often seems to drift out of them and doesn't get the challenges in that are required at this level, and his distribution can be a bit wayward at times. Some say he's make a better player in Div 1. Well, let's hope we get to find out. He's currently injured (again), and with the competition for places and his contract expiring at the end of the season, it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that you could see him in an Albion shirt in the future.

i thought swindon have been the biggest dissapointments so far. before our match with them i looked at the table and they were 11th or somewhere like that! they have the quality up front to really go up and they have just wasted it!

Swindle are one of those teams (like the Albion!) who seem to rely on the big lad(s) up front for their goals, I agree they are good strikers and very dangerous in goalmouth scrambles, as Argyle found out at the County Ground (the last time we got very close to dropping points). When they aren't functioning, they're knacked. Having said that the rest of the team are reasonably solid 2nd Division standard players and they could still end the season towards the top of that mass of teams currently sitting from the playoffs to lower midtable.

Back to the original thread title, they are the most consistent team in this division at the moment , and even allowing for a small slip its already going to be very difficult to catch them.
Their recent history is similar to ours, all through the 90's they had an unpopular Chairman who was not interested in progressing the club but over the last 4 years they have got rid of him, improved the ground and now have an ambitious Manager and a good squad.
Personally I hope they don't finish as Champions as I have a £10 bet with Wotton is God that we will finish above them

Ok, perhaps there should have been more emphasis on 'rely' and less on 'big' to describe the current situation, now that your previous big lad is a Spurs benchwarmer.
