Dear Seagulls:

Having risen this morning an taken a walk up the heaths of Burling Gap,I reflected on my rather intrusive manner of entering the biz site. There for as way of introduction I will elaborate a bit about myself so the masses can have a better gauge of were I'm coming from.
I was born in Brighton,1964,I was brought to Canada at the age of three,as my father was re-asssigned there,I returned every year thereafter untill last year when my granny finally bid adieu,i'm in a cottage house in Seaford. When I was eight my Uncle took me to my first stadium match.I don't recall the team played against but I remember being completly engulfed by the atmosphere and the crackle of the excitment generated by the fans.Well,I was hooked.I,ve followed the Seagulls for thirty odd years.I,ve been thuogh the ups and the downs but I'm proud to say not once did I ever disguise my loyalty.Even in a pub full of foreign
supporters,I'm a Seagull first.
I was posting on the Rivals board and was detoured to this, and I'm impressed.Sometimes I take the mickey,it's all good crack really.Politically and socially we may be miles apart, however, one thing we "lot"" can all agree is love for Brighton Hove&Albion and East Sussex and England herself.
There you go and thank you for your attention,I feel humbled.
Cheers.

Made me feel a bit weird seeing that thread title. Got the heart going thinking it was all the sickest of all wind-ups. Having read the thread though he seems like a very nice person.

Good to see Watford O being true to form.

Welcome newby. What with all the new Seaford people on here, would it not be an idea to have the new stadium here too?

And field a new team?? sorry mate...wild horses could not drag me away from seagulls.:p

What a statement! If there ARE wild horses where you are now, I hope they drag you TO the Seagulls, and on a nice blue/white striped chariot.

I thought about making a new thread to bring up the 1 year since the passing of my mate Evan Warren better known as Defrocked_Priest in these parts. But I felt bouncing this thread once more would do the honours :).

Its a been a year and a few days since this thread Evan Warren RIP had to be created. Feel free to read through the pages of that thread but I will summarize what happened for the lazy ones in the crowd.

While out for a pint after work with Evan he had an aneurysm in right in the bar. I tried to get him to hospital but it was apparent he needed an ambulance. We got him there and about 2 hours later the doctors informed us of the severity of his injuries. What followed was a 4 days search and many phone calls trying to locate the parents of my very private friend. I called London Met, Sussex police and the embasseys in both England and Canada in an effort to find them. After digging through a few "lies" about my friends life I was able to locate his parents and got them to Thunder Bay Ontario 3 hours before his passing. It was a rollercoaster 5 days that is for sure...

Since then I got a memorial tattoo in his honour and I also came across the pond to England. It was his original pushing that got me to book the trip to go across and experience the footy for myself. I came down to Brighton and not only got to experience the last match at Withdean against Huddersfield but got to meet some new people and make some great friends. 17 days later and 6 football matches later I had the trip of a life time and I had to owe it all to Evan.

I wont say too much else but I will let you know that myself and his parents will be bring his ashes back to Seaford in April. I know several had mentioned at the time of attending any funeral arrangements to which they were unable to as it was in Canada. If you so wish to pay your respects please PM and I will keep you updated on what will be happening.

Thank you all for your support when it was needed most and everything since then.

Ha ha! I have the same Dylan Thomas tattoo for different reasons but the sentiment is the same.......................... it's always worth taking time to remember the good people who went before us

With defrocked having a Seaford/Canada connection he may be interested to know that the East Blatchington area of Seaford was a Canadian base during WWII. As a nipper growing up in East Blatchington in the 70s/80s I dug up a pristine brass 'CANADA' shoulder insignia in the back garden.

p.s. Citizens of East Sussex should be proud and grateful that they don't live in the shithole that is West Sussex(the county that gave us Worthing, Shoreham, Lancing...) and should have passports ready should they ever be deluded enough to venture west of Portslade.

Which we wouldn't swap for Hastings, St Leonard's and Bexhill!

RIP Evan. The most gut wrenching thread I've ever read on NSC (the original, not this), and will stick with me for a long time.

Can't believe it's been over a year already.

I never knew Evan in any sense but that I occasionally joined in with the NSC Sunday Night poker in which he was a regular participant. Out of the blue he PMed me one day offering some help and tips to improve my game, having observed a few mistakes I'd made. By the time I sent a belated thank you for this totally unsolicited but welcome advice, it was too late....
