I'm trying to watch 'the usual suspects' on my microwave, but I keep getting a message saying 'set time / temp'. I'm guessing this is because the disk is protected in some way. I've set the microwave to 'defrost' but still no result. Does anyone know what the problem is and how how to solve it?
Cheers.

You need to first set the microwave to a low setting like Plated Meal for approx 15-20 seconds.
After you have added the disc and finished that short program, then try setting the microwave to 'defrost' for 4 mins 30 seconds and it should work without a problem.

Well it worked for me when I tried it with Saving Private Ryan.

I suspect 4 mins 15 seconds should do it for the Usual Suspects as it isn't quite as long.

Fair point Simster - Shaving Ryans Privates was quite a long film.

Sorry, wrong kind of film - I did mean Saving Private Ryan.

Anything shorter than 4 mins 15 seconds and you will start to lose quality though....

Try adding a little flour and water and a pinch of salt, especially the pinch of salt !

Simmer down, Easy, or you'll get overheated.

Is it the right format? Not many people know that DVDs in microwaves work to the same formats as videos. If you have a American-made microwave it may use NTSC (NASA Technology Smart Cooking) as opposed to the European PAL (Plays All Levels) system.

If you've got a professional microwave there maybe a switch to change formats (consult the manual), otherwise I'm afraid it's the old-fashioned method - simmer it gently in a pan of boiling water for 20 minutes then iron it.

Actually, you may need to download the DVD patch from the Microsoft Dowmload site for a Windows 95 microwave.

I think the root of the problem lies in the operating system of the microwave.
Try checking for viruses contained usually in hot spicy food.
Remove said viruses with a large spatuala and retry.
If this doesnt work, try buying a DVD player!!

I recommend switching it off, counting to ten, switching it back on, and trying again.

If this doesn't work - ring the Helpline on 08459 570057 on Saturday afternoon at 17:30.

Have you tried the disk in another microwave? At least then you'd know whether it was the disk or the microwave. Then I'd take the faulty one back to the shop for a refund. Be sure to tell them, "I tried this disk in my microwave and it didn't work"

Did you buy a guarantee on the microwave, because they can be very hard to take back. I sat down to watch The Usual Suspects last night, but all I got was a fireworks display. I took the DVD back to the shop & after a heated argument I was thrown in the back of a police van.
