Playing 3rd from group AC or D if we top the group

How on earth is it even decided? Why can we only play 3rd from 3 groups and not all of them?!

It will get interesting if Croatia are banned today. I assume that then only two could progress from group D? Then IF we win tonight, a tie vs Albania becomes very possible. If Albania don't qualify as one of four 3rd place qualifiers from 5 groups, we would then play 3rd from group C.

Albania are not likely to make it with GD -2 in which case England almost certainly will face Group D 3rd placers, likely Czech Republic. Skalak really could line up against us.

NI will almost certainly face France if they finish 3rd.

Not sure about that. Group E will almost certainly not see a 3rd place qualifier. England then win 3-0 tonight, Albania are probably through. Or Czech fail to beat Turkey, or something weird happens in Group F, or even Northern Ireland get thrashed by Germany (not that unlikely) then Albania are through. I think they will make it, and the Czechs will fall short.

Yes, If the Czechs fall short, Albania will be ahead of them, and it is likely that both bottom two of Group E will go home (though wouldn't put it past Ireland to beat ageing and qualified Italy) My comment was on balance of likelihood, and still think Albania probably won't make it.

Can't see that happening, would be seen as discriminatory after Russia were given suspended ban. The same is nailed on for Croatia IMO.

Actually can't think of an occasion where screwing the last game in Finals has cost us. We have a pretty good record in third games, IMO, Roy is right. If you think bigger picture, we could have seven games to play and this is a chance for players to push for places as well as rest a few dead certs to play as long as fit. Think CH and Brum away, it worked there ( even if it wasn't six players in that case).

Also it only gets 3rd for England if we lose and Wales win or there is GD issues so Russia overtake us. A draw in the other game guarantees second place. A penalty shoot out to decide 2nd and 3rd with Russia will occur if they win by the same score as we lose. Then the Ultras will let off a few flares and we'll go through 2nd anyway....
