Both John Aldridge and Trevor Steven, .

Trevor Stevens never got that far he was recomended to us by a scout but the then chief scout didn't take it any further as he said he was too small and wouldn't make the grade as a pro footballer that was when he was a 15 year old playing for Burnley. Mullery was interested but was overruled. Mullery also tried to sign Paul Stewart from Blackpool but Bamber refused to pay the £200k saying if he was that good why hadn't Liverpool or Everton been after him. Then Malcolm Allison signed him for Man City for £900k. He was recommended by one of the Nolan sisters husband who played for Blackpool and was a friend of Peter Suddaby.

When Martin Keown was on loan it was said that we could've had him for 100k but we couldn't afford it. A similar amount was also
reported for Peter Beagrie with the same reason for not buying.

Roy Keane.

He was playing in Ireland for Cobh Ramblers. We sent a scout over to check out both Keane and his team-mate, defender Paul McCarthy. We decided to go for McCarthy instead

I'm sure I read we offered him a trial, but didn't want to pay for his travel costs. He declined our trial due to not wanting to pay for the travel himself

as an aside, up until this last close season when we smasked it several times over , were we the longest lasting record signing - it being £500,000 for Andy Ritchie in 1982 ?

Not Brighton, but the Southampton ones are sickening.

Drogba
Malouda
Rosicky
Adebayor
Kaka
Bierhoff
Saha
Malbranque

ALL because of the **** Lowe (well not Kaka, we couldn't get a permit for him, how stupid do immigration look now! He went to Milan a year later)

I remember a pre season friendly think that Mullers played in the second half we had Nevile Chmberlin on trial brother of Mark and Oxlades uncle pity we didnt trial mark when he was young. Can anybody remember who we played that night I think it was Portvale but IM not sure. Also we were in for Ricado Fuller when at Portsmouth but Dick didnt think he was a Brighton type of player.

Me. I had a trail in the early 70's when Clough was manager. Glen Geard played in the game, so did Colin Gibson who went on to play for Man utd. Their miss, was the County and Sussex Sunday League gain...oh if only

You're going to tell me next that Russell Cox was the miss of the century along with Geardy........
