suprised no -one here has mentioned Gareth Barry..................................

attended our centre of excellence, never played for BHA (so a definite MISS for us)

Since failing to impress at the centre of Excellence......
cost manchester city £12 million
558 games ALL in the premier League
58 goals

England captain, over 50 caps for England, 3 international goals, the thousandth player to play for england, scorer of the 2,000th England goals, played in the World Cup Finals for England, played in the FA Cup Final

Because it wasn't player we missed out on.... it's not like he failed to impress at the centre of excellence either - Villa approached him and another lad and we got compensation (think it was around £2m)

Everywhere
Russell Martin was offered Youth terms here but he wanted to go to college which the club wouldn't allow.

I vaguely remember reading Peter Beardsley's autobiography years back (it read like he'd got a 4 year old with crayons to re-imagine his career!), and I vaguely remember a bit about him and Steve Bruce coming for trial's at Brighton, and being told neither would make the grade so they got packed off back to Wallsend Boy's club........I could be wrong though, so perhaps someone could clarify?

Isn't there a kid that was playing for Burgess Hill last season, that is now playing for Fenerbache or something stupid like that

Freddie Barker, signed for Olympiacos. He's my age, and apparently the only reason behind the whole thing was that his dad (or a close family member) is good mates with someone very high up at Olympiacos. Well, that's what everyone I know has been led to believe. I believe it, I've played against him dozens of times and there are FAR FAR better players in the County Youth set up, let alone to by signed up by someone like Olympiacos.

We've not missed out on anything.

To be fair , altho Wright scored a hat trick in his trial game for us , it was a straight choice between him and Steve Penney. Apparently we couldn't afford both so sent Wriight back to s. london and took Steve Penney who three years later was playing international football at the World Cup Finals in Mexico. So an understandable decision at the time.

and my understanding of keane is that at the time we knew about him but he never wanted to come to us as he knew by that time that bigger clubs than us were looking at him

But Barry Lloyd choose Paul Mc Carthy over Roy Keane FACT

It doesn't follow that if we had signed someone like Wright that we would of ended up with the Ian Wright that was so prolific at Arsenal, or with Keane that we would of ended up with the Man Utd version.

Too many variants in a players progression.

Keegan said in about 1986 if I did come out of retirement I'd sign for Brighton they made it me a great offer.Souness also said Brighton made it clear they would match my salary, around the same time. This was when Cattlin had us purring.

I also remember something about Rummenigge.

But we would have been guaranteed an Irish nutter who would run around scaring the shit out of everyone else on the pitch

Less a club miss more an NSC miss as Im not sure if the club looked at him at all but....

About four years ago there was a poster on here who kept going on about a Saints teenager who wanted to come to Brighton and we had to buy him as he was going to be huge etc etc. The poster was roundly vilified and it was even suggested that it was the player himself who was angling for the move.

Adam Lallana anyone?

I am sure he was originally from Bournemouths, Centre of Excellence, thats where Southampton got him from.

It is unlikely he fancied leaving Southampton for us back then, surely ?
