I still don't know what everybody actually expects EUFA to do!! - it appears that the suggestion is to let players walk off the pitch as and when they want to, I'm not sure that this will solve the racist issue and it will only encourage idiots to increase the abuse to influence the result. What next - betting on how many players walk off in a given game? Surely the pressure should be on the authourities to sort out the abusers and not on trying to find ways to circumvent the Laws of the Game in order to let them get away with it?

maybe if they had a backbone they might have given the tournament to another country.

reminds me of a game whilst managing an u-14 team, our winger was kicked up in the air half a dozen times because he was too good for the defender and the referee did nothing but our winger after being clattered again told the ref he "was going off before he got his leg broke" and walked off the pitch and the ref booked him for leaving the field of play

You cannot force someone to stay on the pitch and withstand racial abuse for 90 mins, and if they do walk off they are punished for it? The officials, like usual, wont do shit!

Platini needs to be shot, then his corpse to be f***ed by randy dingo's.

Balotelli picks up a booking during the course of a game. A supporter of the other team then sees it as his 'patriotic duty' to racially abuse him and have him walk off (and therefore pick up a second yellow). Bearing in mind that Italy have Spain and Croatia in their group I could see this happening even before the first yellow.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, only with Evra and the Ukrainian fans.

Rules is rules - a player is not allowed to leave the field of play without the permission of the referee. What do you want Platini to do - say that this Law of the Game doesn't apply in Euro '12? He doesn't have the power to do that and there would be uproar about his arrogance etc etc if he tried to do it.
That said I'm very concerned that this competition is going to become a shambles on this whole issue.

No. The rules of a game are NOT more important than the serious issue of racist abuse. Preventing such a vile occurrence should be Platini's first concern, if that means bending the rule then so be it. Personally, I think this is a ridiculous decision and simply highlights how out of touch and useless the governing bodies of football are.

and how will the ref work out that this is racial abuse rather than any other abuse handed out to players by fans. UEFA cannot bend the rules here. Imagine that Poland or Ukraine are losing 1-0 in the semi final and with 5 minutes to go the crowd start handing out loud racial abuse to get the game halted.? What's he supposed to do . Under such a "vile occurrence" should he abandon the game (knowing that it cannot be replayed)

"Who's the w@@@@r in the black" - is that an insult based on colour or not?

and this is nothing new. Players are not allowed to leave the field, once the game has started, without the permission of the referee.

UEFA shouldnt be holding these finals in countries where racism is soo strong its all uefas problem and countries that any team face away and have racist taunting against them they should be made to play behind closed doors in my opinion it needs to killed once and forever

You cant have players unilaterally walking off the pitch, whatever the provocation is. I think UEFA have got that part of it right, how they react to any racist incidents will be interesting to see

I know it was only a tv programme, but that panorama thing made it very clear that racism and fascism are very strong there. What with the general abuse of black players, the mass Nazi salutes and the attacks on coloured fans.

exactly and based on that amount of evidence you can make exactly the same accusations about every country

Although their is racism in many countries, I doubt that in most it is as bad as it is over in Ukraine/Poland. However, it is wrong that an international football tournament should be hosted by any country which has racist problems, so the decision to host Euro in Poland shows the failures and uselessness of Platini and his crones.

I think common sense has to prevail in the end. The referee is unlikely to call off the game because of abuse from the terraces. If a player becomes visibly distressed though, he should ask to be subbed by the manager.

I don't think it will take much to turn this whole tournament into one big farce. What will it take to show UEFA they were wrong?
