I think that if players/agents can't be contacted, or if the deals are not acceptable to the players/agents then cheerio boys. How long does that take? We are not talking Thierry Henry here.

Agreed - also how wise is it to re sign all of the players that got relegated?
Losing can become a habit and may need some fresh blood to break it.

In my eyes a contract is a two way thing, between Employer and employee, and in my humble opinion, quite a few of the players did not keep up there part of the bargain, if they had, we would not have been relegated, i also believe that sometimes the indians have to take some of the blame, you cant always keep blaming the chiefs, all off the time.

(if nothing else this will open up a bit of a debate :lolol: :lolol: )

This thread is bollocks, some of you are coming across as even more clueless than usual.

The club has said that an announcement will be made when all the details are finalised. That means it could simply be a case of waiting for one player, or his agent to make their minds up. It could easily be that 8 of the players know exactly what it is going on with them and are making their own plans accordingly. We wont know until it's all done.

Get rid if they can't be contacted? Don't be f***ing silly. We aren't in a position to do that. What if the player concerned is Harty? The one player that as a board we all thought was worth keeping.

Lord B said earlier that a player couldn't make a meeting on Tuesday. That has delayed things. It doesn't mean that we haven't sorted things with the other 8.

Sorting out contracts with 9 employees should be easy? These aren't just normal employment contracts. These do avtually need negotiating, and that isn't as easy as it sounds when you have agents involved, but made even harder when the employee isn't actually expected at the office for work as wouyld happen in a normal job!

Yes, it's frustrating when there's no news, but that's typical. I'm sure that loads of clubs fans are in the same boat. It's just the bored on here that want to make something of it.

A simple " I disagree" would have done. Still perhaps you get your kicks by swearing and insulting others.

I agree with K S Arse. This season isn't even finished yet FFS. What's the rush? Just so we have something to get irate about on a message board? These are people's livelihoods we're talking about here. In many cases, they're life-changing decisions. I'd rather the club took their time and got it right. All we got to do is sit back, enjoy laughing at the play-offs, then get engrossed in the World Cup and BB7 and Royal Ascot then go lie on a beach in the sun. Scorchio! :smokin:

I'm as frustrated by the lack of news as everyone else Jim, but some of the comments on here are plain ridiculous. DK gets slagged off if the club say nothing about when they expect to have news. He gets slagged off if he puts up a deadline and can't meet it, for whatever reason. He gets slagged off if the deadline he puts up is too far away. He can't win.

There are perfectly reasonable reasons why we haven't heard anything, yet the club get slagged off regardless. Whose to say that the reason the club haven't announced something isn't because of a player or two dragging their heels in deciding what to do? The club can't announce that can they?

I'm sorry but picking at my choice of language is simply pathetic. i make no apologies for using emotive language, it's the way I feel. I could quite easily have answered Dougs comments with "Will a simple f*** OFF do?" but I didn't want to get drawn into that sort of slanging match.

We have to accept that it's the close season, it's a bit dull, and we're all desperate for any news that will make the prospect of a new season in a lower division that bit more bearable, but I'm happy that the club have decided to wait until all the players futures have been sorted out before announcing anything.

Can't see it happening on at sat.I reckon monday morning now

Up until now I've always been very "pro" uncle Dick, MM and the club in general. We've been through the toughest of times and DK in particular has been a true giant in dragging us through with dignity and integrity. But I'm worried about where the club I love is heading at the moment. Maybe you're right, maybe I'm worried about nothing and it will all be smiles, goals and promotion celebrations next season in which case I'm just another twat spouting crap on a message board. But I fear for us financially. I fear Falmer is coming off the rails. I fear crowds could be well down next year. And, as expressed earlier on this thread, I fear we are laying the foundations on the playing side for back to back relegations.

I fear for us financially - you are probably right to, but I can't see how this situation has dramatically changed from a year ago when you seem to imply you had a more optimistic outlook. In fact it is not clear it's changed from 5 years ago.

Falmer coming off the rails - couldn't disagree more, we are light years on from where we were last year with the Government now backing our fight.

Crowds down - yes they might be, but any difference really from 2003-4? There is bound to be some relegation backlash, there always is, but most Albion fans tend to stay loyal so it will not be hugely dramatic.

Back-to-back relegations - you may not agree with the manner in which KSA has expressed himself, but the substance about what he's saying about the contract negotiations is sound. We are likley engaged in some hard bargaining with players who will remain valuable to our cause this coming season. All in all, nothing to be unduly worried about unlesss these negotiations fail, which, apart from some rumours that a squad player like Nicolas wants out, there is no sign that this is happening.

Where I do agree with you is that I too was unhappy with the chaotic process that led to the delay in the start of contract renegotiations. But with that roadblock just recently removed, there is no sign that the talks with players are not now happening in a fairly orderly and business-like manner.

I hope you are right LI. But our financial plight worsens every day that we are not at Falmer so in that sense we are worse off then a year ago. If we are to build a squad capable of promotion next season then we need to make every penny of our budget work for us. In a competitive marketplace that means being one step ahead of our rivals. We could do this if we know exactly who we are keeping and therefore what money we will have left over as soon as possible. We will steal a march on other clubs because we will be first in to snap up any bargains. It was our inability to source a striker this time last year that ultimately led to our demise in the Championship. If we again fail in that search the same could happen.
If this was a one off I would not be moaning but it seems to happen every year, as does the late arrival of the new shirt. Spurs announced their new shirt this week, wouldn't it have been nice to unveil ours, even if it wasn't yet in the shops? Add to this the recent poor public relations from the club re moving the family stand and the managerial confusion. The unpromted deadlines that are missed. Sometimes I feel we are not doing ourselves any favours.
But as I said, maybe I'm being unduly pessimistic and we will all look back on this close season and laugh come April 2007.

it's the finances that are the biggest problem

even at league one level assuming an average gate of 8,000 I would guess we would need to have a net inflow of funds from player transfers of £500k per season to have any chance of just BREAKING EVEN

thus being realistic we will carry on losing 600k plus a year MINIMUM = about 50k a month

at worst say 1.2m per season = 100k per month

simplistically if turnover next season gets over 5m we will be lucky
whilst total costs will be in the region of 6m - of which about 3m will be wages and salaries

year that our finances have never recovered from is the first season in the Championship under Hinshelwood / Coppell re 2002/2003 season - we made a 2.5m loss that season - of which 900k was spent on Falmer and 250k was re capital gains tax charge re Goldstone Ground sale - rest i.e. normal trading etc WAS A £1.4m LOSS

player deals not yet announced must be about some tough decsions re wage cuts etc as we simply can't afford to budget for a £1.5m plus loss next season
