Uefa president Michel Platini says the 2020 European Championship could be spread across various cities in Europe, rather than having a single host.

Traditionally one or two countries have hosted the tournament, which is being held in Poland and Ukraine this summer.

The next competition in 2016 will be hosted by France.

"The Euros in 2020 could be held all over Europe," said Platini. "It could be either one country and 12 stadiums, or one stadium in 12 or 13 cities. Does anyone know that I scored 7 goals in Euro 1984 finals?"

Turkey had been favourite to host the event but their bid has hit difficulties due to a desire to host the Olympic Games in Istanbul in the same year.

Platini confirmed a final decision would be taken in January or February next year.

"This matter will be discussed very seriously," he added. "We will have a great debate about 2020 and discuss the pros and cons. We will do our best to prevent England winning as usual.

"It's an idea I feel really passionate about, it will be a lot easier from a financial perspective. By the way I scored seven times in the European Championships in 1984."

"We are not going to wait until we know whether Turkey are going to get the Olympics. It creates a problem for us. We do have other candidates. Everyone has the possibility to host it. We want to see plenty of goals, but I doubt if anyone will get as many as the seven I scored in 1984."

"It is easier to go from London to Paris or Berlin than Cardiff to Gdansk. It would be four games per venue. It is a great debate, but there is no debate who scored the most goals in the 1984 Euro Championships finals, it was the French captain, and he scored seven, modesty prevents me mentioning his name".

In January 2011, Platini called for the 2022 World Cup to be played across the whole of the Gulf after Qatar won the right to host the tournament, and the compulsory viewing on YouTube by all French children of the seven goals he scored in the 1984 European Championship finals.

Oh he's a prat anyway. I'm actually more interested in the champions league and premier league than the world cup or euros these days. But obviously the championship is my number 1 priority!

Fun fact: did you know that in the 1984 European championships, Michel Platini (France) scored a whopping 7 (yes, seven) goals?

Coincidentally, this was also two years after Aston Villa won the European cup.

First thing to come into my head was the Abba song "Money Money Money".

This useless idiot is in charge of European Football - Boris Johnson could do a better job

He has also reiterated his opposition to goal line technology, removing his tongue from Sepp Blatter's rear orifice for long enough to say "where will it end"?

................................. hopefully in correct decisions being made Michel

Don't have a big problem with this myself - as long as fans don't have lots of extra travel. Group A could be in Manchester, B paris, C-Madrid etc

From a host country financial perspective there is a potential benefit. But anyone who has ever been to a WC or EC will testify, the fantastic atmosphere in the countries which have hosted these finals is something to be savoured, and would not exist under the garlic eating surrender monkey's plans.

Probably realises nobody is going to be able to afford to host it one country now the twat has put it up to 24 countries

this. Spain, France, Italy, German and us are the only countries who can really put on the bigger format. co-hosts would probably struggle without a third host which starts to get silly, why not just have it across half a dozen or more.

not sure its a bad thing either, would basically mean UK would get a couple of Euro games every 4 years
