[Brighton] Planes, trains & coaches -- 1st trip to UK and Brighton, April-May 2023

Hello everyone! I'm planning a 2-week trip to North Wales and London, and would like to spend several days in Brighton for the April 29 and May 6 home fixtures (assuming the coronation doesn't louse up the schedule).

My plane would be landing in Gatwick April 29 at 10:45 am. I figure I'll disembark between 11:00 and 11:15, spend another 30 mins at customs, 20 mins to pick up my suitcase at the carousel, 15 mins to get to South Terminal, 30-40 mins to ride the train to Brighton, 30 mins to check into the hotel, then a 10-min walk to the Old Steine bus stop (F, I think it is) to take the shuttle to the Amex at around 2:00.

Question: is this a likely scenario? Are these assumptions reasonable, or should I not even bother buying a ticket to the match because I may miss most or all of the match?

Thanks in advance for your help. Hey, maybe some of us can meet at a pub for a pint!

You're likely to miss the match entirely because:-

A - it was played the day before.
2 - it will be played the day after.
C - It kicked off as you land.
Or
d - You can go with a couple of hours to spare.

I would book a taxi and not trust our railway.

Feck... Well, I suppose the dates and times will all be sorted out shortly before the tickets go on sale. If the grand poobahs decide to move the fixtures around, I'll just hope that I can make it to at least one of them at the Amex.

Unfortunately your timings are unlikely to work. Any flight delays and/or delays at Gatwick will royally screw you up

I've lived and travelled in several dozen countries -- first-, second- and third-world -- and had my share of frustrating experiences in airports and railway stations, but never in similarly sized advanced nations like, say, South Korea. Have Conservative misrule and Brexit really turned you, logistically speaking, into a Soviet republic?

Getting from the tarmac at Gatwick to the Amex via a central Brighton hotel in three hours feels optimistic, although when you break it down as you have done, it should be possible - you'd need everything to go in your favour though.

But, as others have said, you'll want to wait to see if it's moved for TV. The good news is only one move - lunchtime Saturday - will stuff your plans. Any other move such as teatime Saturday, Sunday afternoon or Monday evening will mitigate any time concerns. I'm assuming it won't be played on Friday evening as that slot is rarely used.

All perfectly achievable on the right day. Getting all three timings on the right day to line up together is where the plan may fall down.

Just checked and it's Wolves at home. Doesn't feel like a prime draw for sofa punters as the season works towards s conclusion, so feels unlikely for a TV pick.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback. It looks like my best bet would be to fly in on Friday the 28. I'm not sure I can push back the start of my trip a day earlier, though. I guess I'll just hope that the May 6 tie is rescheduled on a date that's convenient for me.

We don’t have pubs anymore. We do have a selection of family friendly restaurants that serve beer. Although they’re all shit.

I don't think these specific issues are brexit related, but I'm sure somebody could be found to disagree with me.
I can see you spending longer at customs/passport control, and the train timing seems to depend on you arriving at the station at exactly the right time. And the trains running properly that day.
