I've no idea what you like but here is a walking guide I give to the tourists who visit my shop. This all depends on where you're staying and who you are with.
Brighton Lanes. The old original cobble stoned streets. Worth a look, they can be found between Prince Albert St & North St.
From there head north down Bond St, Gardener St and the pedestrianised Kensington Gardens (this area is the North Laines).

Do you know, I thought about it knowing the spelling wasn't Lane. But shirley it's an area and so it's Laines. A collection of streets within a certain area.
But now I've written that, you may be correct. OK, I've checked Visit Brighton and it is Laine. But it still sounds wrong!

That's got dodo bird parts, hasn't it? Not quite as weird as the Penis Museum in Reykjavik, but intriguing, I'll grant you that. (I'm a longtime parrot man, myself.)

At the end of Kensington Gdns turn around and walk back. At Church St turn left and a short way down on your right is New Road. Enter. Here you will see the Dome and Theatre Royal. On your left will be a path down towards the Royal Pavillion. You are at the back of the building. Go to your left to walk around to the front. From here make your way to the Pier & Seafront. There are many small independant coffee shops and cafes to stop along the way. This whole walk could take between 1.5 to 3 hours depending how fast you travel and how many shops you stop in.
There is a hop on hop off bus but to be honest we've nothing to hop off for.
For a stunning view forget the i360, pop up to Devils Dyke. There is a pub up there but nothing else. Check here and look for number 77 https://www.buses.co.uk/April-Updates-2023
For general shopping we have Churchill Square Mall and next to it Western Road. It's the same shops as you will find in any other high street.
Eating and drinking is down to personal taste but we have everything covered. Suggest trip advisor to find something but avoid the nationals, use a local pub and restaurant.

Wonderful -- advice from a pro! I'll most certainly want to stroll through the 'Olde Towne' and have a pint and a meal in a pub along the way. I appreciate your proposed itinerary, which seems to cover the most noteworthy sites in a few hours.

Brook's a fairly common word isn't it? It's not like laine which I've come across in the context of North Laine and nowhere else (still no excuse for getting it wrong though ).

The word brook always makes me think of early 90s Bruce Willis movie Hudson Hawk. When I was about 8 or 9 a mate of mine had it on video and we watched it more than a few times and particularly enjoyed Bruce's rendition of Bing Crosby's Swinging on a Star, which features the line: "A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book".

It's been an intermittent earworm for the past 30 years.

I've not been out for ages, but the Bulldog was always a bit clicky. Queen's Arms used to have a good drag show on Sundays.

BTW nobody (outside of the media) refers to Everton as the Toffees! Also, over here league matches are never referred to as ties. The beach is just a mass of pebbles, best enjoyed from the ancient Volks Electric Railway.

I'm not sure I get your drift about discrimination..? Don't some establishments cater only to men or women in the UK (I'm thinking pubs) or is that a relic of the past? If so, my apologies. Here in Québec, our men-only brasseries were outlawed in the early '70s. In large urban centres, gay bars and clubs are either mixed or 'specialised', depending on the owner, market, neighbourhood, etc., although no one, of course, is refused entry. As for our language laws, I'll refer you to Wales.

Thanks also for the UK footy lingo tips. Can't help the odd (frequent?) mistakes as a North American, but that's part of my charm, heh heh.

The rail system isn't even the worst example. Water companies dump sewage, at will. Aspects of the UK are a Trumpian dystopia. Canada followed the US and UK in its electoral system, you need to take notice of how other G7 nation's electoral systems work to avoid the risk of following us into our pitfalls.

During the 2015 elections, the Liberals promised to ditch our first-past-the-post system in favour of ranked ballots and proportional representation -- but of course refused to follow through when they realised that neither they nor the Conservatives would ever again be able to form a majority government. There are several smaller parties who would win many more seats in the House of Commons than they currently do. And so it goes...
