Au contraire oh ex bearded one, I thought that this was not a government policy decision, more a Prescott decision

Prescott is making his decision in line with government policy. And Labour's transport policy especially, even though they haven't really implemented a great deal of it, is different from the Tories' policies. The inspectors (Hoile and Collyer) are thought to have made their reports without referring to Government policy on those issues listed above. Hence Prescott's rejection of them.

So it follows then that whoever is holding the post will sign the Yes form end of argument it will not affect us at all when the election is because the inquiry will be finished before election day.

The election won't be in February, so this is all immaterial.

It will not affect us full stop, assuming Labour is returned to power - which it probably will be.

Someone in the know could have said that 1 hour ago lets just hope that Tories dont win, well for BHA s sake at least.

I did.

your questions...
(a) it won't - they'll crack on regardless
(b) as long as it is outside the 'four weeks before the election' - no effect.
(c) isn't that the same a 'b'?

Let's just hope the Tories don't win for anyone's sake.

I do not think that they will again until they find a leader who can lead.

Watching Question Time recently I was impressed with the manner in which Michael Heseltine seemed to still be the star of the show and overshadow the labour minister with hios knowledge and presentation.

Would he do an Alec Douglas Home and make a comeback?

Has anyone noticed that the better looking candidate nearly always wins?. Except in" Miss World" of course.

Mmmmm. Wish I was as confident as most of you that it's Falmer or one of the other sites Trouble is the decision will be made by a politician and sad to say I just don't trust politicians. As Harold Wilson said a week is a long time in politics and so much could change before we know the result of the new Inquiry. If it coincides with the run up to a general election the publication of the report could be delayed as JP may want to avoid hassle. or he could rule out every new site and say stay at Withdean rejecting Falmer using the 2 planning inspectors reports as justification. We would then be back to square one, well Withdean. And I don't think we can survive or progress if we are stuck there.
Cripes I hope it will be Falmer..won't it?

Funny that people on here were saying that about Bush!

No, no, no.

The case against Withdean is far too overwhelming. I think even the Falmer NIMBYs know that. Look at the trouble we are having getting 2,000 extra seats - let alone 16,000 on top of what we currently have.

Falmer has been 'given the orange light' as DK put it. We just have to prove that the other seven sites are unusable. We have had long debates on the board about this before. The other seven sites are crap, and proving it means that we will get Falmer - that has already been stated.

Martin Perry said at a public meeting (not the one at Coral's) that Prescott 'will live with the Falmer site', implying it is not perfect, but that it is good enough.

If Falmer is not given the green light then it has been said on here that the next best site automatically has to be the one the Albion apply to build on. NOT TRUE. Knight has repeatedly said there is no other option (and he may just be right) and in saying that he has given a whole new bunch of nimbys plenty of ammo. The enquiry might just point out that there is NO ideal site so that would mean plan c.

The Tories really are unelectable. Even the US Republican Party thinks they're shite.

How do you know, being a Labour Voter or any one but the Tories you're hardly a yardstick now are you old boy

DK and MP have always infered "no plan B as its not needed" - and based on posts above thats about right as no for falmer may be a yes for another site

The Republicans told Michael Howard to sod off when he started criticising Blair over the Iraq war.

As for the Tories returning to power, can you see them upending a 180-seat majority? No-one has ever come close to doing that before, especially not a party which is still in-fighting.
