Ask any hammer he is on about 70k a week at West Ham according to fans but just seen the mirror say 40k a week

According to the Torygraph, when they were last in the prem (with Piquionne on board) their top earner was Parker, on £60k a week. Next was Hitlesperger on 45k followed by Carloton Cole on £30k.

I just can't see how he was on SEVENTY.

Not an argument with you (as it may read), just the world is bonkers if that is the case.

My word. I took my numbers from an article about who to get rid of after relegation. I assumed they had picked the top 5 earners.

I was dramatically wrong!

Just seen that Cardiff are paying Bellamy 40 k a week. Sickening and it's hard to imagine how we would afford that amount for similar quality :nono:

Very true. I wonder if any of the other players (e.g. Vicente/CMS) have clauses in their contracts that require their salary to be within (say) 5% of the club's highest earner?

These days players contracts are not just set on a pay and term basis, I recall that Alan Shearer's contract at Newcastle stipulated he had to be the club's highest earner by a certain percentage, this meants as other players were bought Shearer's wage increased in line with the new player (Asprilla and Ginola etc.).

The cost to the club may not just be the new player's salary........something we should all bear in mind in these days of pulling hair and gnashing teeth about the demand for a striker.

Shearer signed after both Asprilla and Ginola, so not sure how his wages would have gone up based on their signing!

Sky Sports are reporting that Scott Dobie is struggling to agree tersm with Blackpool, if we can slip in he could be a useful acquisition although not a 'gem'.

Wouldn't want him ... Stephen Dobbie on the other hand ..................

Difficult to see how he can't agree terms given Blackpool don't really offer terms, more like take it or leave it

I got the same response when Barndoor signed said he was shit was slated left right and centre, funny enough he was dog shit, Piq is awful and if people wanna delude themselves and believe he is a good player then good luck to you, but we wont be scoring goals any more than we are now.

Who's Barndoor?

Fair enough, I'm not a Newcastle fan.

Fact is that Shearer was there for long enough to ensure that as new/existing players made their demands these pushed his wages up without him having to make his own demands.......I recall reading how other players (e.g. Beckham, Owen) had similar types of clauses.

Fact is if some of our players have similar clauses and the club has a punt on a 30k pw player it will have a wider financial effect. That's all.
