He said that VAR cannot ever get involved in reversing a penalty given decision [by directing the ref to the screen, because it is not a clear and obvious error].

Laid that on thick. VAR should never have got involved.

If he’s correct, another aspect to VAR that needs amending. We want the correct decisions, not gobbledygook to protect the ancient sanctity of the match day ref.

Get your house in order like cricket and rugby union.

Indeed.

As I have said time after time the rubric of VAR needs to be fixed and some rules need to be changed.

Referees are consciously and subconsciously conspiring to sabotage VAR by constantly ridiculing and undermining it while waving the 'referee is the untimate arbiter' flag.

And sadly a noisy minority of fans are helping them in their cause by screaming 'bin VAR' every five minutes.

As in politics we get the 'government' we deserve.

We should be screaming 'change the rules and make VAR work!'.

Oh, and 'We want correct decisions and we want the fuggers NOW!'.

He later claimed VAR is only there for when there are incidents like the hand of god, BT Sport should stop this nonsense of having an old referee as it is pathetic.

Having anyone doing punditry declare what the rules are and what they are for, when they are just making it all up, is a disgrace.

If we did that in my game the place would fall apart.

Totally agree.
If you play it back several times between 27 seconds and 29 seconds it actually shows that Solly March didn't even make contact with the player, only the ball.
I initially thought it was a penalty and VAR helped the referee correct his error and make the right call.

It's exactly what VAR is for. Peter Walton completely fudges the issue and goes for the most popular opinion and the one with the best percentage chance of thinking it's right.
The bloke needs to grow a backbone and say what he's seeing rather than what the supporters of big clubs want to hear.

Yeah exactly this, we have all been caught up with the rhetoric that Solly followed through after getting the ball.

From the angle we first saw it looks exactly like that, but the view from behind shows Solly getting to the ball and withdrawing his leg, whilst Trezuguet executes his swan dive from the expected, but not delivered, contact.

We're used to posters online posting bullshit to support they're argument, but they are rarely allowed to get away wit hit.

I was amazed that no one has challenged his statement that the "contact was heard around the ground"
What a tool.
