Peter Walton has done it again. Man Utd " I don't think this penalty will be overturned" and it was.

This is a shambles. For me West Brom were robbed of a pen.

I heard this too. Let's consider that statement, from no other than a referee: " He -quite rightly - went down" Proof - if it were needed - that the game as we knew it has changed.

If you are still watching you will have heard Hoddle commenting on Cavani drawing a foul/cheating :’lovely to see.’ Football has become all about the cheating.

Yes, I think I heard what he said...

"Var isn't there to make the right decision" I believe was one of his inane comments

He has repeated this nonsense during the Man U commentary and I started a thread on it to my shame and horror.

But I was very cross.

And I don't even want WBA to get anything out of the game:shrug:!

Those comments by Walton are pretty insane. What an idiot. That isn't a penalty. March touched the ball last and then Trezeguet kicked him so free kick to us if anything.

True - for geriatric dinosaurs like Hoddle. He said something about an 'old school' challenge earlier.

They should tell him to **** off home so he can get drunk, slap the missus around a bit, piss the bed, and leave the rest of us to watch the football in peace. The plum.

Neither do I, but I'm still angry about our game with the officiating and blatant cheating so this made incensed again!!

The clear and obvious error was that the ref didn’t see that March touched the ball.

He was probably told about it by VAR and then went to see the replay where he then corrected his error.

Yep this.

There was one great camera angle that showed Oliver’s line of sight for the incident that made it clear why he pointed to the spot as it was a physical impossibility he could have seen March’s touch on the ball due to a BHA player ghosting into view immediately between the tangle and the ref.

No issues with ref integrity VAR doing its job spot on for this scenario. Ref gives decision based on what he thought he could see at the time, VAR provides him evidence of the reality to overcome the reality of not actually being able to see.

Everyone should be happy with the rationale and ref’s authority not questioned.

All true. Whilst still angry about the Lamptey sending off, as the penalty was awarded, I accepted it and thought, “ **** me not again” and was really pissed off. As soon as I saw the replay I lost my shit :lolol: To then hear Keown (?) sounding 100% certain it was a penalty had me F’ing and blinding like a nutcase. My wife was not impressed! Even when the ref went to the monitor I was sure we were still going to have the penalty awarded. In short the ref came out of it very well and reversed his, understandably, incorrect decision made in real time.

Looking at that replay it’s not even clear that March actually caught him let alone getting the first touch.

Totally agree.
If you play it back several times between 27 seconds and 29 seconds it actually shows that Solly March didn't even make contact with the player, only the ball.
I initially thought it was a penalty and VAR helped the referee correct his error and make the right call.

It's exactly what VAR is for. Peter Walton completely fudges the issue and goes for the most popular opinion and the one with the best percentage chance of thinking it's right.
The bloke needs to grow a backbone and say what he's seeing rather than what the supporters of big clubs want to hear.

He later claimed VAR is only there for when there are incidents like the hand of god, BT Sport should stop this nonsense of having an old referee as it is pathetic.

Didn’t this tool say he would book Knockaert for unsportsmanlike behaviour when he kneeled behind the wall v Spurs at home ??? Top teams do exactly the same and they get praise for creative thinking.
