The poll just goes to show it wasn’t clear and obvious and the fact var got involved is a disgrace and not in line with their usage this season. We were on the wrong end of one today and it made them cheat even more.
Surely if players (Everton’s in this case) make a claim for handball in the penalty area then Var will get involved? Ref didn't see it but fact Everton’s players protested the Ref will ask Var to check

They will look at everything - they’ve not often got involved this season compared to other seasons. I feel hard done by.

Fair enough. You mentioned us being shithoused. Not a lot we can do about it except get in the refs ear which Dunky and others did. But I've yet to see any ref take any action against teams like these (also see: AV, Fulham, Arsenal, Wolves)
And there in lies the problem. I’ve said this on previous threads, I welcome the day a ref actually sends a player(more than likely a goalie) off for time wasting. It‘ll be 2 yellow cards, but when will see a ref brave enough to actually do this.
For all Pickfords arm waving this afternoon, it was all bollocks. He was wasting time, and I welcome the day a ref grows a pair big enough to actually do something about it

I feel hard done by our 1st half showing. I don't feel hard done by the penalty as it was blatant. Had it been up other end and we didn't get the decision then I'd be furiously hard done by. I thought Everton were very poor but some on here say they were excellent. They were excellent at what they do but in entertainment value and skill I thought they were the poorest side we've played at home this season including Crawley in the Carcabao Cup too.

If you’re scrapping for points, you start the game with a point. If you can finish an away game with a point, then happy days. If you finish with 3, then that’s a bonus. It doesn’t always make for a great watch, but how many times were we scrapping for points in our first 3 PL seasons?
I‘m not necessarily saying it’s right, but with£100+m at stake to the club, you do what you have to do. On the receiving end it sucks…

Agree totally. They did a job on us and deserved 3 points for that. (Well, a point at least but for Velts gift).

Called it the second it happened - right in front of us. Clear as day Veltman used his hand. Penalty all day long.

Pickford had nothing to do, we created zilch. Frustrating. Minteh and Rutter need to start, Joao needs a rest/talking to.

Same here. Was clear cut and Var was used correctly as the ref missed a clear and obvious handball.

MOTD pundits spilt; so pointing out, it‘s not a clear and obvious decision.
But that is just typical knee-jerk Lineker punditry.
He just says stuff without really thinking it through.

Did the ref see the handball, when he gave a corner?
If not, there is a clear and obvious error.
Sure, it's still subjective after that. So the ref is shown to the screen. to review his decision.

Personally I think it's the right process and the correct decision.
And I'm normally the last one to take off the blue and white specs.

He saw the foul, the push on the shoulder.

I was in the north stand, who were enraged by the decision.

Then that makes VAR not fit for purpose in this scenario. "there's a foul on the defender, but ignore that, did he touch the ball?"
VAR is not fit for purpose and never will be as decisions in football are too subjective. Like this incident.

I and lots of others don’t think it was a foul - some do. You’ll never get agreement on most decisions in a game which is why it shouldn’t be used.

I was in the North too, N1C
I. had a great view of it.

Yes we were enraged, but that's just what you do at a game.
We aren't looking at the events of a game as a neutral.

In real time, most of us saw a very clear handball.

Law 12 gives discretion to the ref regarding whether a push is using excessive force. It was clear from the replay that Beto's use of his hand was as leverage to try to reposition his own body in front of Veltman to take possession, so it was a foul (you see these challenges given as free kicks all over the pitch, multiple times per match).

If he'd not used his hand I'd have no problem with the challenge.

I haven’t watched it back so don’t know if it is genuine penalty or not, but my god what a boring game of football. My drive down to the Amex was slow moving traffic punctuated with the bit of clear road it was an utterly tedious journey. The game felt exactly the same. In some ways I wish we actually had a reputation of being a bit shit so teams come to the Amex and try to play football, not park the bus and waste as much time flopping on the floor at every opportunity. Unless we score an early goal it happens so often. Not sure if I was an Everton supporter travelling down to watch that I would be impressed unless they like watch the art of defeating.
