By quibbling about the pen, we're just looking for excuses for our abject performance.

Penalty or not we HAVE to sort our home form out. Even without the pen it would have been 0-0 and yet another disappointing point. We HAVE to start taking (and creating) more chances otherwise Mid Table will be where we finish.

Everton might be anti-football but we have to find a way to get around such teams. It's been our problem for far too long.

We do have to find this out - but its not something that happens overnight.

And of course we will finish midtable this season, and thats fine

Whether it was a foul or not, the action of swiping the ball away is foolish to say the least. Whatever the merits of the challenge, a penalty should never have been on the table as an outcome. Veltnam only has himself to blame.

It was a foul. These are given ALL THE TIME against us. Veltman was at full sprint and got nudged over.

BUT, because the ref did not give the foul, it has to be a penalty with VAR in my opinion. Veltman swiped the ball away after he’d been fouled. He pushed his dark arts too far which I get, because the ref had been decent up until then.

Unfortunately, the ref can’t disagree with VAR because he has already concluded it was not a foul so the only conclusion is a penalty.

It’s like when a player is fouled and handles the ball before the ref has blown resulting in a handball.

Veltman cost us because the ref missed the foul.

100% a penalty, it was a dumb bit of play by Joel and I don’t like criticising him

Refs miss fouls in the build up to goals. The goal is ruled out due to a foul

Ref missed a foul today, but gave a penalty.

You either ignore the fouls missed by refs or you don't.

Veltman was not fouled. Veltman did what he often does and pretended he was fouled. We praise him when he is brilliant like against Ipswich but that was awful defending. Ridiculous.
Which part of the Everton player pushing Veltman on his shoulder into the ball and barging him sideways is not a foul?

Hmm. There was murder in the stadium, but actually I think it's the right call. It was made was by the amount of time it took the ref to give it. He still didn't look sure what he was going to do when he walked away from the screen , so I think a lot of the anger came from the impression that he was just mentally flipping a coin.
