Mills hits out at media coverage

Sir Paul McCartney's estranged wife Heather Mills has accused the media of "pushing her to the edge", likening her treatment to that of Princess Diana. In an emotional interview on breakfast TV station GMTV, she also accused "a certain corner" of fuelling negative coverage about her in the press. She added she had received death threats and been "close to suicide".

Mills, whose divorce from the ex-Beatle is going through the courts, called on the public to stop buying newspapers. She said: "I've had worse press than a paedophile or a murderer and I've done nothing but charity for the 20 years. They've called me a whore, a gold digger, a fantasist, a liar," she added, complaining that she had endured "eighteen months of abuse [and] 4,400 abusive articles".

In further interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Mills said of the media: "They had me on the brink of suicide, because I was contemplating that if I killed myself then my daughter will be safe, because when she's with me, maybe she's not going to be safe."

Mills appeared on GMTV with a large file of press clippings, calling for European law to make the press "just and fair". She denied suggestions that she had used media coverage to her own advantage, saying: "I haven't used the press for anything but my charity.

"I am the one that is abused daily. I have protected Paul [McCartney] for this long and I am trying to protect him but I am being pushed to the edge. What did the paparazzi do to Diana? They chased her and they killed her," said Mills. When asked about her ongoing divorce case with Sir Paul, Mills said she has been "offered nothing" and faced legal fees amounting to £1.5m, but said she was unable to discuss it for legal reasons. "I'm gagged at the moment because I'm not allowed to say a word while the media are fed this spin by a certain corner," she said.

She said reports that she wanted to obtain a clause in the divorce settlement to sell her story were "rubbish". "I can sell my story right now. I'm trying to protect Paul and our daughter. I am trying, and I'm being pushed to the edge."

A GMTV spokeswoman said its interview with Mills, which lasted for 20 minutes, was allowed to run on because "it is a news programme and things can change". "If it is a good guest then we run with the story," she added.

So... she complains about media instrusion, then does a round of media interviews. :thud:

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I noticed she went to court in a wheelchair and a spokesman claimed she was having trouble with a prosthetic limb....how very convenient.

Was 4 years of marriage really worth the £50m she wants?!

I am firmly in the McCartney camp on this one.

I heard her on the radio complaining about all of this her basic spiel was "You don't know what money I have asked for, I might have asked for nothing, I might just want Beatrice's future secure, I might not want any money, I might just want to get on with my life, I might not want any money, I might just want to move on. I might not want any money. I just want the media to leave us alone. I might not want any money. Go and visit youcare.com. I might not want any money" which is fine but stopping feeding the lions might be the first step to being left alone, Heather.

Plus she blatantly wants loads of money.

whiny old media whore. so how come the sticking point is apparently her wanting to be free to run round the US chat show circuit? i loved the quote from her last week, that the last 18 months have been the worst of her life. what, worse than when you lost the leg? she deserves nothing but a poke in the eye.

Interviewer: So, Sir Paul. How are you feeling?
Paul M: It's put me off marriage. I can tell you.
Interviewer: Never again?
Paul M: No. Never.
Interviewer: So that's an exclusive. You'll never go down on one leg again.
Paul M: Absolutely not. And can you not call her that. Her name's Heather.

I watched that interview, it was pretty decent car crash TV, and whilst she came across like a complete loon, I do feel that she has a point.
The papers in this country can print whatever lies they like and if they are caught out all they do is print an apology in the bottom corner of page 9. She was saying that if they print lies then the apology should be in the same place and the same size as the offending article. Also when they quote from a 'friend' or a 'source' they should be made to reveal who it is. I think these are fair points, it's just a shame that she made them in between crying and ranting some incoherent gibberish.

I don't mind her. who knows what went on behind closed doors. I don't think McCartney is as squeeky clean as people think anyway.

I saw her in the Casino in Hove a month ago and to be fair she is a fine looking woman, well presented and a cut above, you certainly would not kick her out of bed or her false leg

All that, plus he went and bought her a PLANE for Christmas. And a razor for the other leg.

"Maybe I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time.
Maybe I'm amazed at the way I love you"

Isn't she holding out for the right to publish her book so that her side of the story can be told and he's holding out for that not to happen? As Nibble says, who knows what went on behind closed doors?

Personally I think Macca should be flogged with wet celery in Churchill Square for showing absolutely no interest in association football, or more specifically BHAFC, his local team, and where his £750 million would have been most welcome. In fact none of the fabulous four were into football if me memory serves. What was wrong with those boys?

His marital record with Linda suggests that he's not a totally off the rails weirdo.

H.Mills had her digs at him before, until it went pear-shaped and the press turned on her - now she cries foul.

She claims she contemplated suicide after death threats - but the ob only let her know about those threats so she'd be careful - now she's using that stuff to be as histrionic as possible (like today in an interview on live radio).

If she shut the f up and said "water off a ducks' back" and wasn't trying so hard for the money - it wouldn't be anywhere near as transparent that she's trying for one of the biggest heists since the Great Train Robbery.

Also, her going on about doing stuff for charity all her life? Do give it a rest, truly charitable people keep their traps shut about how much they do and give for charitable concerns.

Histrionic attention whore, and I hope she gets jack.

She could do herself a favour and shut up. She doesn't make it easy on herself.
