Pay on the gate question

For one of our recent games the club advertised the availability of tickets right up to kick-off, for collection at Withdean. Can't remember whether that was online or via the phone.

I dont see how they can do that as they cant print tickets at the gate and therefore would have to print the tickets at the shop and then get them over to Withdean.

This idea of I would go if I could pay on the day is old hat rubbish like if you are looking for a job or a car somebody always says, if only you had asked me last week I knew of one. It is easy to say things when you know they can't happen.

Sorry but simply do not agree.

When I played football, if my game was called off on a Saturday Lunchtime, I would head off to the Goldstone, so would several of my team mates.

As a County, Sussex has one of the largest number of people playing football on a Saturday afternoon. When thoses games are called off you suddenly have lieterally thousands of men looking for something to do.

I know that only a small percentage of those support the Albion but we should be encouraging such people to turn up, pay their cash and get into the ground. As DTG said earlier it HAS to be simple.

When you are in London or New York, you can buy 'attraction tickets' from guys with hand held devices, who then print them off, why could these not be used outside the ground if no cash is to be taken at the turnstyles?

Easy to say sell them at a train station when the facts are railway ticket offices are not staffed as much as they want people to use Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) or collect from them pre-paid - ticket on departure (TOD), bit of a clue as to what I do for a job here.

So say the club print off 7,000 tickets to sell at Rail Ticket Offices but don't sell them then lost money and waste of time - can't see it happening plus Southern Rail would want a cut so higher ticket prices. Train Operators make a fortune out of ATMs on their sites as they get commission per transaction of money withdrawn.

As someone who has worked in the development side of ticketing situations in the travel industry there are plenty of systems already developed that could handle this situation.

You set up a remote ticket machine with an internet connection. This machine is stocked with a generic set of tickets that has space for the date, match, and seat numbers etc...

You then offer a on demand ticketing situation. Much the same thing is done for online travel firms like lastminute.com or expedia etc. No waste and you can leave it there for the whole season stocking tickets as and when you need to.

Really quite simple.

I'm presuming (and with a vague memory) that he can still book online as happens at the moment and with the same time limits.

In the example i used i put that he will be in the pub watching the live saturday morning game, its a last minute thing that he decideds to go so unless the pub has free internet access then hes not going to bother.

I have had a quick scan of the rest of this thread and DTG is right, it has to be really easy to get a ticket.
When useing my example then my mate isn't going to be intressted in trying to book a ticket when hes team is on the tele, he will sort it out afterwards if not he'll just stay in the pub.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Will people just shut up and listen to the sane people on this thread. Fans need to be able to come to Falmer and pay at the point of entry if desired. End of argument. Anything less and it's guranteed at every match that we'll have lost some fans who would otherwise have attended. If the club's so stupid as to not realise this then they deserve all the current contempt lots of fans like me have for them. Piss up and brewery come to mind. I don't care what people say, the more ways of taking money off people the better - and that includes good old cash for as long as it's still in circulation.
