Pay on the gate question

I have heard that stations will be selling 'tickets' for Falmer so portslade seagull can get his at the station on the way to the match.

So, Why can they not do it for Withdean where the attendance is very low. At least at the main stations like Shoreham, Haywards Heath, Hove, Newhaven or even just Brighton.

This idea of I would go if I could pay on the day is old hat rubbish like if you are looking for a job or a car somebody always says, if only you had asked me last week I knew of one. It is easy to say things when you know they can't happen.

This is simply not true, I can think of several occasions when I might have gone to the football had I been able to pay on the gate. Have you never, let's say, decided on an evening to go to the cinema? What would be the difference?

I don't know. I only know what the future holds.
There's no point in installing new equipment at Withdean when we're leaving there.

one ticket booth at the station surely wouldn't cost that much....we'd get 2 and a half years out of it MINIMUM....and then it could potentially still be used for when Falmer is built?

As I said in an earlier post when the ticket office line closes at 1.30 send 1 person with all unsold tickets up to Brighton station. They need not even collect cash for security, just one of the old fashioned swipe credit card machines and a bundle of pre printed tickets. They need a table and a chair and 1 security man/policeman to watch over the seller .

At which station? How many stations?

Does that include Falmer station? Basically what some casual fans will want to know is if they can get some tickets on a whim at or near the stadium.

Even if they only did it at Brighton and each person lost a little use of the travel voucher it would be an improvement. People would travel to Brighton if they KNEW that tickets were available via SCR or Southern Sound. The club would know by 12.30 if there was likely to be any available. I a talking of now at Withdean there is plenty of time to sort out Falmer.

I can't remember the details. I thought you were at the fans forum when these things were mentioned?

Big problems at Man City using similar system - two blokes told me they had pensioner/junior season tickets and they were both in their 30s. The "pensioner" was worried because in years to come he might be paraded as City's oldest fan (100) when he was only 67.

With no-one manning the gates anyone could use any ticket. I think they now have dedicated entrances for kids.

that is the same at leeds.

from the start though we have had concession only gates and then teh adult ones. bit of a pain when i have all the kids with me as have to send them through one by one and hope a kind steward will hold them while i go through the adult gate.

I was, but i mainly took in the bits about the swip card and mobile phone technology. As that affect me as i will go to nearly all the games there.

But having spoke to a mate since i wasn't really sure what the club plans where for the casual fan that supports a Premership team.
So say for example hes a Liverpool fan and i meet him in the pub in the morning to watch there game. Half time he things i quite fancy going to see the game at Falmer but seeing as the sky game doesn't finish until 2:30 he doesn't want to mess around sorting out a ticket, so would he be able to head out to the ground and get a ticket near there?

I hope this is the case as i don't think the club can afford to turn away anyone.

My information was that the ticket arrangements for Falmer were not part of the Planning Permission and this will decided with an agreement with Brighton Council.

Easy to say sell them at a train station when the facts are railway ticket offices are not staffed as much as they want people to use Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) or collect from them pre-paid - ticket on departure (TOD), bit of a clue as to what I do for a job here.

So say the club print off 7,000 tickets to sell at Rail Ticket Offices but don't sell them then lost money and waste of time - can't see it happening plus Southern Rail would want a cut so higher ticket prices. Train Operators make a fortune out of ATMs on their sites as they get commission per transaction of money withdrawn.

I'm presuming (and with a vague memory) that he can still book online as happens at the moment and with the same time limits.

To increase the attendances at Withdean nobody is suggesting ticket offices etc just BHA ticket office set their computer to print out the unsold tickets in the home stands or even just 1 stand and then have a small kiosk/hut or as I suggested a table & chair for one of the staff to sell those tickets from 1.30 to 2.45 at Brighton station.
What would be the outlay the cost of the paper to print the tickets., which would be ofset if they sold 1 ticket.

So print out 12,000 tickets and have someone on a table and chair flogging them, do really see that happening.

What about cash security and chip and pin card verification, come on Brian surely not ?

At Withdean though, we're talking a few hundred max.

What about those handheld till things the train conductors have?

Oh those machines we sell to Train Operators ?

Yes they could be used as a till however there is cash security and also the fact they need to be printed so which part of the ground do you print off ?

Oh and the chip and pin is not on-line authorised therefore could be a stolen card so lost money to the club.

All needs to thought out very seriously.

If you read my earlier post you will see I suggested that they could use the old fashioned swipe credit card machines no cash and we are talking of probably less than 500 or so tickets at the most. probably even less than 100 but at £20 a time to a club that is skint £2000 extra for very little trouble. If it was a success you could increase the manpower.

You should know better about having the contract for the chip and pin device as swipe transactions are now very dangerous and cost loads more with revenue at risk so to have chip and pin would be expensive as only used 25 times or so a year.
