Those of you who know me, know that I do some scouting for Paul Jewell and know him quite well. .

Maybe now would be a good time to pass any tips for players who didn't quite come up to Premiership scratch onto the Albion, we are about as attractive an option as Wigan but without the paypacket

Yes, yes it is.

Chirs Hutchings was a tough tackling left back I seem to recall in the mid eighties, perhaps under Chris Cattlin. Silly tash. Is that a temporary appointment? Seems like a cheap option like Sammy "waiting to be sacked next season" Lee.

they know their football though...

'Arena, former US head coach is set to take over the club at the end of the English Premiership season on Sunday following Uniteds last match against fellow North East strugglers Watford City.'

That's the badger. He was quite liked down here - which is astonishing considering he played for Chelsea during that 1984 riot and appeared to urge their "supporters" to carry on smashing the place up.

How dare you - in my days as Junior Seagull I was photographed sitting with him in the changing rooms during an open day - this photo then appeared subsequently in the roy of the rovers 'Me and My Hero' section earning me a crisp £20 postal order!

England stagnated under Sven, just kept making the quarter finals.

Arena made the quarter finals in 2002 and then went out in the first round in 2006, so that is going backwards.
I think that's a wee bit simplistic. How would England have done in the group the USA got?

Czech republic (fancied at start of tournament), Italy (eventual WC winners), and Ghana (easily the best African team)

I think we might have struggled to qualify from a group containing that lot.

But then in 2002, we had Argentina fancied for the tournament, Nigeria probably the top African team and Sweden our bogey team and we got through it.
