I was just about to post the same thing myself - if we were to re-sign any player I would like it to be Currie.
Surely Derby won't want him permanently now they're in the Prem and Ipswich have made it clear he's available so he should be our top priority target IMHO

Some players do better themselves leaving here, Zamora, Currie and yes, Kazim Richards are all good examples. However, thoise who leave seldom do, it's debateable whether Peter Ward did for example. I would hardly describe Danny Cullip's career was better either. The one's who move up a division (or two) seldom prosper. Brooker is a good example as are the likes of Jarrett.

I'd be pleased to have Brooker back. Yes can be a little inconsistent but also can be a match winner. What people have to understand about players like him and Currie is that they are not going to get stuck in and tackle back. That's not their job. Sign him up.

Not sure aboýut this. Would rather have Currie but either Currie or Brooker will bring a bit more flair to the team that often looked bereft of ideas last term.

I'd see him signing as a step back - he'd be good in league 2 but doubt he'd still have it 1 level up.
His best season was in League One or the Championship or the sinking ship or whatever it's called. But that was only for a third of the season - the last third of a season he had with us. I fear too many are blinkered by the form he was in when he left, rather than the performances as a whole during his entire tenure.

Yes, he is/was a quality player, when he could be arsed. I'd put him in the same bracket as Leon Knight (towards the end) for laziness and Nick Ward or Jake Robinson for strength - a passenger.

He can't do any worse than our lot did last season-surely to god?

What's Paul Watson doing these days???? And maybe Jonah will come back too.......

Well, I like players who can actually play football and entertain... Brroker is definitely in that cactegory, if inconsistent... a lot of players in his position are BTW... perhaps your comments give some clue as to why you think Mayo is an asset and I think he is a fcuking liability... :)

Would welcome back Paul Brooker, and Currie too!

If Brooker had 20 games for us where he did well in the three years he was here, I'd be amazed.

I'm speaking to Deano later - I'll BEG him not to bring back such a pansy. If he has such an issue with Jake Robinson not being strong in the challenge, he'd go ballisitic at Paul Brooker.

In Brooker's defence I reckon he put in more meaningful performances over a season when running at players with the ball at his feet (even taking into account his winter on pitch sabbatical) than Jake last season. I cannot believe that he was anywhere near as inconsistent or infuriating as JR last season

Hard to tell.

Jake had a purple patch this season at a time of the season when Brooker would have had his sabbatical. It says something about Jake that we find him 'infuriating' or 'frustrating' because we know he can do better. It's not something we ever said about Brooker at the time.

Brooker, on his day, was quality and a pleasure to watch. He would be an asset if he can still play at his best and I'd be happy to have a player who can run at and beat a full back, and then deliver a decent cross or shot. However, we have very little money and we already have enough erratic players to play out wide.

If we can sign him and it doesn't affect our transfer budget much then I reckon we should go for it...just as long as he hasn't turned into a pile of shit.

If Brooker rejoins us then it will be as a squad player rather than the fixture in the side that he was during his first spell with us. He will be competing with Cox and Frutos for a place in the side.

He has been unpopular at all the clubs that he has played for since he left us. A couple of years ago, I saw him play for Reading, at Oxford, in a League Cup tie. Every time Brooker touched the ball, the Reading fans booed.

He did that in one season if I recall correctly. We won the league.
