Paul Barber answers NSC questions/rants....

He really does. Can't help himself.

But the true management visionary would invent a new ticket exchange system, not blame the current one's limitations. For example.

It seems to me that the club is in a constant battle to fight the fraudsters abusing every ticket concession that the club attempts to provide. Perhaps your anger (perhaps too strong a word) should be pointed in that direction as well as those individuals who try to get a free kid's replica shirt that they are not entitled to (how woeful is that!). PB is trying to run a football club here not a charity

What exactly, apart from all the arranging of extra buses and car parks across Brighton and Lewes etc, do you think the club should be doing?

From where I travel, I would say that the Club offers me a BETTER deal on days when there is a rail strike. Free parking at Lewes station and a choice of bus or train to get me to and from the game. What's really good is that the trains turn up at Lewes with more space than usual and a seat is guaranteed.

The only exception has, of course, been the shambles that was the post-match experience after the Villa game and I can't see any reason to query the robust response that the Club made to SASTA after that event.

Good of the club to answer, some interesting answers too, but unfortunately Barber comes across as a lecturing bellend this time. Would have been better done as a youtube interview where he can be more expressive and show a little bit of empathy on some of the more negative answers.

Strange to put a generally negative piece out there now at a time when we're flying.

As opposed to all the negative threads started by a minority on NSC!

Please also note that from the 2017/18 season onwards, we will require junior members to have been a Young Seagull member during the previous season in order to qualify for a free replica shirt.

That little move is going to cause absolute hell for some people. Barber is turning this club into a soulless, commercial juggerthing.

I think Chicken Run is gonna get another batch of shirt orders next season.

From the outside looking in, some of those questions smack of whatever the club does people want more. Good of him to answer them though.

How is this going to cause hell for some people?

Giving away free stuff to kids doesn't really say soulless, commercial juggernaut to me

If the away fans can't be moved closer to the North Stand, then I don't think it will ever be as loud as it could be.

Can barely hear the away fans from the North, and they can barely hear us. No wonder away fans think we are crap supporters, it's because they are so far away from the passionate ones.

I got bored reading half way through. How can someone ask a question against PB when it hasn't been done in a live situation? I could have read it wrong of course. Or it could have just been set up.

Anyway I have my season ticket so I don't care.

Surely this is a measure brought about due to abuse of the service?
Blame the abusers not the club!

I'm really not angry at all. Maybe a little put off by the tone of some of the CEO's communications, but not much.

But to your point about this being a business. The ticket exchange "system" has been haphazard for ever, and it always seems to me that someone like PB ("every penny counts") should have this as something of a priority. In fact, the more full-houses we get and the higher the % of tickets sold are ST's, then logically it's more important. How else to convert the no-shows into bums on seats. And selling the same seat twice is great business.

So rather than tell us it's a poor, manual process (which anybody who's used it would know), my suggestion was that PB and team might want to fix it. I know he says we are "working towards" it but where I've worked that's usually management speak for "if we get round to it".

If its not terracing, then its pointless (in my opinion). Its not going to boost capacity, it'll make naff-all difference to the atmosphere. Standing in front of a seat is what most of the North Stand does already anyway. Rather than spending half a mill (or whatever) on ripping out seats for cheapo fold-downs and rails, I'd MUCH prefer TB to invest it in the squad.

But maybe thats just me.

No it's not just you... having a standing area will do little to generate an atmosphere and is just an appeasement to those who won't sit down.

Have just read through the q&a and don't see anything wrong with what's written.

I expect PB has found himself to be answering the same questions from supporters over and over, so has taken time to put answers to the most commonly asked questions on the official site.

Makes sense to me....

I sent a question to PB at 6:58am this morning in relation to last night's postponed match.

Had a full, considered and professional reply at 7:08am.

Compared to other clubs we do get a very good level of communication from the Albion.

We are very lucky we have such a 'fan interested' CEO. At other clubs I doubt our questions would have been answered.

Some suggest PB sounds like a headmaster, but actually, he kind of is isnt he?

Anyhow, as the nerd who constantly commments on ticket sales and continually makes sugestions on this board regarding the ticket exchange, I think a point has been missed. Never has it been suggested resale seats should be sold before a sellout, mearly that the facility to make them available should be made sooner. The only extra manual work this will give club staff might be more tickets to eventually process, but with seats selling in most cases upwards of £30 with a retail voucher given (at a likely max cost to the club of about a fiver) this would clearly make fantastic commercial sense.

PB is quoting 200 resold tickets for QPR as a super acheivement but the simple fact that the game was officially sold out nearly a week before, that there were hundreds more (maybe 1000's) of empties and a clear demand suggests there is huge room for improvement, not only in the process of offering a ticket for exchange but how its communicated. And after all, as this post underscores, communication with fans is something our club does excel at.

I'll look forward to the improved offering for next season where in the top flight more and more fans may have to rely on such a system to see The Albion.

Still not a fan of Barber.

I think the headmaster theme is a good one. Barber may be the head but TB is the Chairman of the governing board. Barber runs the club and makes all the penny pinching decisions which just serve to annoy supporters (no match day exchanges, stopping money off discounts, a rubbish ticket exchange which he won't upgrade etc), but the real decisions are taken by TB.

Some may disagree but I've always found him quite patronising in his explanations for trivial penny pinching. It's clear to me that this stuff has little bearing on FFP compared with the real transfer expenditure decisions which are obviously made by TB.

Barber is just TB's gofer really. I think TB is pretty clever in deflecting all the crappy stuff to Barber and avoiding being seen to be responsible himself. Still Barber gets pretty well paid for his troubles.......

Strange the response seems to suggest he thinks there is little demand for standing. Maybe he could just count how many people stand up at the moment which is normally most of the north stand and all of the away stand.

Can't he just use his eyes rather than relying on surveys?

Due process? As we see on this thread there are strong opinions. If safe standing was implemented without the club canvassing opinion there would ups be uproar from those who have nothing better to do than complain.
