I can almost hear Alan Partridge saying that.

"On this morning's phone-in, we ask: "Covid checks at pubs - A passport to 'pass port' or a poor sport's idea that's 'piss poor'. You decide".

NEEDLES to say - I had the last laugh

Don't kid yourself. ID cards are already here by stealth. The list of things you can't do in this country unless you have a passport or driving licence (and millions of people, for various reasons, don't) is growing all the time.

I'd quite welcome ID cards. As you say, it's pretty standard practice to carry passports for everyday life these days and an ID card would be much simpler.

It shouldn't happen at all.
The public should be fighting against this happening.
All these are is an attempt to bring in electronic ID cards and tech driven mass state surveillance.
It is also way of forcing people to take a vaccine who don't want to take it but it will also exclude those from society who can't take the vaccine creating a two tier society.
Take the vaccine by all means but don't be fooled into thinking these passports are a passport to freedom and normality because they will eventually turn into something completely the opposite.
I am 100 percent against the idea.

If you are posting that using a smartphone or laptop with location services on and cookies enabled then you are already using a de facto piece of tech driven surveillance. But maybe you dictated it to your secretary or got it on here using the power of positive thought?

Vaccine passports should be used for overseas travel for now IMO but the aim should be that they become quickly obsolete. The whole point of vaccination is to de-risk Covid beyond needing such things. And not for the boozer IMO, Unenforceable and continuing to victimise the industry.

I'm amazed that we're even discussing this - what don't people understand about the fact that this is a killer virus???

I'm not overly keen on a vaccine passport but much prefer it to a sodding mask.

If you mean "get vaccinated people" I agree 100%.

If you are amazed we're discussing it for pub entry then I don't agree. For a start are we going to vaccinate under 18s? Lots of pubs these days are family friendly and need the family meal trade to survive. Are we back to leaving them outside in the back of the Escort to be serviced with an occasional pack of crisps and bottle of coke?

When i go down my local after having had my jab and am safe to you your family and everyone else , so that i will not pass on anything nasty for you to take home to your loved ones . I damn well expect you and everyone else to return the same respect and decency , i don`t think that`s asking too much . So if that means some type of vaccination proof then so be it .

Yes,your probably right but I fear these vaccine passports are the final piece of the puzzle to coerce everyone to
A. own and carry a mobile at all times.
B.have electronic ID on that device.
Basically if we don't have those things then we will not be allowed to participate in society.
Which I think is completely wrong.

Sounds like a medical apartheid being brought in.

I'm in favour of it.

I like the fact that it in effect coerces people to get vaccinated. We need as many of the young as possible jabbed to get towards herd immunity.

It is an intrusion, but 126,000 have died in the country. We need stop any more dying if at all possible. That's the bigger picture

Yes that's true and I am very aware of the scale of surveillance used by tech companies and it goes well beyond just cookies and the show location option, that's why I want as little tech in my life as possible.
Yes I have the same thoughts for a vaccine passport for travel, but even then if we need a passport to show we have been vaccinated then it implies that there is a risk to travelling so should the journey be taking place at all?
As I said and we are also in agreement I am against the passports 100 percent for pubs, cinemas and essentially living our lives in our own communities and I hope you are right about it being unenforceable but I fear publicans will have no option if the government tells them that if they don't then they will still be subject to social distancing regulations.

But (just as devil’s advocate here) if you and your family have been vaccinated then you’re safe.

If somebody who hasn’t been vaccinated walks into the pub, the person taking the risk is them. Is it not their choice?
