Why would the club give permission first? It does not benefit them to do that. It would have us in a stronger position to make them bid first.
Someone might have already pointed this out:
The club has a stated policy that it will always inform staff of offers and allow them to talk. Partly this is having an honest and open culture within the club, partly it's just recognising you're never going to stop covert talks happening, so why aggrevate someone you'd prefer to keep by attempting to stop them?
I appreciate you have stated 'get the offer first' but the first offer is never the final agreement and further Pascal's wages will be a factor in how much they can afford to pay us.

Can anybody point me to any report of this that doesn't emanate from Florian Plettenburg's tweet? Everybody is discussing this as a settled matter, but I can't seem to find anything from either club, or from Pascal. As I've said on here previously, Plettenburg just seems to be Germany's version of Darmesh Sheth & Kaveh Solhekol and, though he may very well be in the know on this one, I couldn't see us all composing eulogies if we had only the word of one of those two.
They’re also quoting Sky Sports Germany. That’s the same bloke.

I'm normally sceptical about things like this. It's not the usual speculation or bet-hedging, though. When it is, Plettenburg says things like 'he's on club xxx's list' or 'they're in talks'. But he's saying he's definitely agreed personal terms and the clubs are negotiating. He's usually pretty reliable on German football, and Sky Sports Germany have published it in writing as their article.

Sky (even Dharmeth Sheth) don't tend to use words like 'total' and '100%' lightly especially in writing, they fudge and qualify until they know - so I believe that they know.

Of course there will be no official announcement while negotiations are ongoing and contracts still to be sorted. But I can't imagine the negotiations will prevent it - it feels planned. If terms are agreed we'll have given him permission to talk, maybe even discussed it last year when he extended his contract - either way I doubt his plans to go back to Germany have come completely out of the blue. It's not like holding out for a young player who's had their head turned - it'll just be about trying to get the best outcome for each club now. But one way or another I'm certain he's gone.*

(*In the highly unlikely event he stays, I will be very happy he does, and very happy to eat my words, and will reserve my earlier post for when he does leave, at which point I expect I will feel exactly the same.)

It's all a bit Dan Burn. In this case Pascal may be worth £20m+ to Albion, but I'm guessing if we could get about £12m for the old boy, we'd be laughing all the way to the bank. But how I'll miss the Gross turns. I always wonder why no other players have taken the opportunity to learn it from the master.

It does rankle that we gave Adam Lallana a send off and not Pascal. Particularly as Pascal is off to a massive club in his homeland and Adam is chumming back up to the scummers.
Perhaps a pre-season friendly with his new club?

Surely we didn't know he was leaving, and in fact, we've been trying to keep him.

Maybe they have and have been holding back until he leaves 😉.

Tony Bloom stated no stands would be named except for points of the compass, which aren’t accurate anyway.
You have struck a chord with me. I suppose the stands were labelled as such as a way of harking back to the Goldstone. They should really be the WNW, NNE, ESE and SSW or if you want to use just the main compass points then the current North stand should be the West, the East should be the North and so on round.
But then i am a pedantic old fool ! :D

Not at all. I can remember PBOBE telling us at a Q&A.

Bundesliga has a winter break, innit 👍
They do. However the likes of Bayern Munich and Dortmund often galavant off to the likes of Dubai and the far east for training camps and friendlies shortly after Christmas. That leaves just the Christmas break. If I was in his shoes I'd probably be looking forward to my first Christmas off and at home for years tbh.

They have. I’ve even seen Steele do it in front of his goal.

£8.5m tops
33 years old
12 months left in contract.
Has been very open about wanting to return to Germany.

Wish him all the best. He’s been a brilliant servant to us. Now it’s time we repaid him and give him his wish.

Pascals been a wonderful servant to our club and a clear leader both on and off the pitch.
Im sad to see him go (if indeed he does) but goes with nothing but my well wishes.
