Some crazy figure like that, yes. And she took out all those credit cards with £20k here and £20k there, tore through her savings, everything. Lost her family, her job, her house.

When it went to court the judge had a degree of sympathy for her, she didn't get prison for the theft but sent to rehab instead. Seems she managed to turn her life around in the end.

I know the temptations are all over the place when people get into debt.

But every time someone gets themselves in horrensous trouble or, God forbid, tops themselves because of it, the families wheel out the old "It's all Barclaycard/Capital One/MBNA/Ocean Finance's fault" line, as if it's somehow down to the bank that the individual blew £50k in two years on 60" plasma screen TVs, holidays in the Bahamas and Prada shoes.

We all need to take a bit of personal responsibility somewhere down the line.
