Just been reading up on Pancake Day in wikipedia having previously been unaware of the religious connotations of the pancake. And now I know:

'In most traditions the day is known for the eating of pancakes before the start of Lent. Pancakes are eaten as they are made out of the main foods available, sugar, fat, flour and eggs, whose consumption was traditionally restricted during the ritual fasting associated with Lent.'

Gotta love Iceland's take on the big day:

'In Iceland the day is known as Sprengidagur (Bursting Day) and is marked by eating salted meat and peas.'

Happy Bursting Day everybody, Happy Bursting Day!

The instructions are on the packet 280 ml water, one egg and pancake mix. If I am not careful, could turn into Yorkshire Puddings though.

My flatmate text me saying she's getting all the stuff for sweet and savoury pancakes, and is cooking. I wouldn't bother for myself, but I'll certainly have some if she's making.

Am I really the only person who couldn't give a shit about pancakes? If they're that great, why don't you all eat them regularly, rather than all rushing, lemming-like, to Tesco once a year and sparking a run on lemons & flour? It's essentially just a flat Yorkshire pudding as far as I know, which means it should only ever be covered with gravy and served with roast beef, not sprinkled with sugar and splattered with bloody Nutella.

I don't dislike them, per se, but I certainly couldn't get bothered enough about them to make a trip to the supermarket just to buy the ingredients

I really should have said "I couldn't give a toss", shouldn't I?
