I agree with your point that I wouldn't trade places, but I am concerned at the relative difference in wages between the two clubs.
Considering the often quoted figures that they are paying there appears to be less than 1 Zaha between their annual wage bill and ours.

I'm assuming that we are paying for more players than them in total, and may have to look at pruning back over the coming few seasons.

I'd guess the plan is to fill the 'holes' in the squad eventually with the best youth players who earn less and subsidise the wage bill with sales of the lesser talents from the youth system plus the occasional breakout player in the first team XI

With Sakho reportedly in talks with Lyon, and possibly Benteke/Zaha moving on, the wage difference may be a Townsend next season . ???

Yeah that may well be true, and it is probably essential that you get the high earners out.

I think your problems will only really start when you have to rebuild your ageing squad.
Do you think that process will be to pay for proven performers, as previously?
Or do you have enough coming through the academy to balance things out?

Should we get relegated and Palace stay up it will be hard to state that the Albion way is the best way

We keep talking about the Palace wheels coming off but it’s not happening is it?

No I cannot argue that Palace's approach hasn't yielded better results.
That is unquestionably the case.

However I am still incredibly proud of what the club have achieved and the investments made by the chairman.

I would still rather have the Amex, Lancing and a bottom 6 Prem/Top 6 Championship squad.
Than what they have.

It gives them the bragging rights for now.
Possibly it will continue to work for them too, who knows?

The palace wheels won't come off until Zaha leaves.

That is why they don't let him move elsewhere.

All the while Palace have Zaha, they'll be fine. Whilst we have brought through some very decent talent into the first team squad over the past few seasons, we haven't had anyone come through with that sort of ability. He's a once in a generation player as far as home-grown talent is concerned for clubs of the size of Palace and Brighton.

At the end of the day you cant argue that Palaces approach hasn't been more effective than ours in terms of performance in the now. It may unravel long term but our position and performance is horrible for our outlay and Tony must be disappointed.
I have to agree.

I think we need to have a more flexible transfer policy, and look at buying some more established players, some of whom will be near the end of their contracts.

If you look at their purchases of Townsend and Cahill, they bought 2 established PL players. They pay them a good salary, but they got Townsend for £13m, and Cahill on a free.

We seem to focus on younger players, only proven at a lower level, pay a big transfer fee and lower wages. This is a policy that works if the player progresses fast enough, and then we get a sell-on. But I can't see anyone coming in offering silly money for Webster, Maupay or Bissouma for quite a while.

So I'd like to see us mix it up a bit.

Oh don’t get me wrong I am convinced that we are going about things in the right way, but every season I expect us to do better than them...it just never seems to happen

Really I couldn't care about Financial Accounts top trumps. The only thing that matters is head to head results & final league positions

It's just football fan willy waving - On the pitch, that's all that matters innit.

In our case, it's a bit different. The club being run in a sustainable manner probably matters more to us, than most other clubs in the Prem.

Is it sustainable ?

I believe so, yes.

Where money has been spent, it is always with an eye to potential benefits beyond the current season.
It leaves us on a knife-edge between premier league survival and relegation, but the relegation itself would not force a fire-sale.

When your Owner is still pumping in £25 mill a season in the PL , it’s not really sustainable.

To break even we probably need to sell 'a Dunk' every 3 years, or increase the amount of Connollys and Alzates.

This is why we still need some focus on signings like Mac Allister, Gyokeres, and Mlakar in the next window ( yes, not all work out ).

After the end of the the year ( the dreaded and unmentionable ) Brexit means we can no longer sign players who are under 18 from the EU. Work permits don't even come into it. EU negotiations don't come into it. FIFA forbid it.

Union SG, could however still sign these players, and 'park them' for us. I wonder if they will.

1. Off the pitch stability and efficiency strongly correlates with on field success, certainly it's a very good predictor of medium to long term prospects.

2. If you have a large willy, why not wave it around?

Depends how much your owner is prepared to spend on your club, I guess.
it also depends what he's spending it on.
